Not able to follow site
-
I have a self hosted wordpress site that recently moved from wordpress.com. Even with the jetpack plugin my post show in the reader but when you try to use the follow button I get an error. The error states ‘Sorry, there was a problem following http://readbetwixtwords.com/feed. Please try again.’ I think it may be because it is trying to use http instead of https, but i do not know how to correct this error.
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

I was able to follow your site (I’ve since unfollowed) from here without any errors:
https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/119035515
Your site shows up on our end using
httpsso that doesn’t seem to be the issue here.It looks like you transferred your subscribers from your old WordPress.com site to your new Jetpack connected site. Were you already subscribed to your old site? If so, your subscription would have been transferred and you would already be listed as a subscriber.
If you’re not already subscribed, are you trying to subscribe using your
nowhere67account? If so, try logging out of your account here at WordPress.com and log back in and see if that fixes the issue?I will note that the site
readbetwixtwords.comis not associated with the account you’re currently logged into, so that might also be part of the issue. -
I was not a subscriber before I moved the subscribers over after I first moved everything over someone let me know they could not subscribe. Nowhere67 account is my spouse’s account. So we were trying to use that to test it. That is were I get the error. It would be a brand new subscriber. i just logged out of everything and tried again but still receive the same error.

No, I am talking about the follow button on the feed.
https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/119035515
If I go to the feed and click follow in the top right, it will turn green for a second, then go back to blue and give me a pop up with the error message.I noticed as well that the feed has not updated. I added a new post last night that is not showing up in the feed, but when I use another RSS reader app it does show up and seems to be working fine.

No, I am talking about the follow button on the feed.
https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/119035515That’s correct and is what I used to follow the site (which worked just fine) which seems to indicate you may have a browser issue. Try a browser you don’t normally use and see if you have the same problem.
I noticed as well that the feed has not updated. I added a new post last night that is not showing up in the feed, but when I use another RSS reader app it does show up and seems to be working fine.
I’m showing the latest post in the feed is the one titled “Show Some Love: ‘The Aesthete Blogger Award!’” which appears to be your most recent post on your site.
While WordPress.com hosted sites will update their Reader feed immediately upon publication, posts from Jetpack sites don’t appear in the Reader feed immediately. Reader feeds from Jetpack sites are reliant on the site sync through Jetpack and not RSS and you may need to wait up to 24 hours before you’ll see your posts there. That seems to be what happened here.
Regarding the error message, if you still have this problem in a different browser we’ll need to get the error message from your the JavaScript console in your browser when you try to subscribe in order to troubleshoot the issue.
Here’s a guide on how to open the JavaScript console in other browsers:
If you can expand those errors and take a screenshot of the full error, that would be most helpful. If you’re not familiar on how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:
Then, use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.
Thanks!

Can you clarify what the
Tracking Preventionentries are related to? If it’s an extension or setting in your browser or a program running on your computer (common in antivirus software), please add[*].wordpress.comas an exception to those tracker blocking rules (or use the format required by this program to add all WordPress.com sites to the allow list).Otherwise those
ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSEDerrors on the like buttons means that your login authorization token is no longer valid which would also prevent you from following the site since that also requires a valid login.Try logging into your site in an incognito/private browser window that would have zero extensions enabled and see if you see the same issue.
Everything we’re seeing here is a problem on your end. It appears there’s some kind of program on your computer or a security setting or extension installed in your browser preventing or blocking functionality that requires your login authorization cookies to access.

The tracking prevention i cleared up with your recommendations. I am using Micorsoft edge with no extensions on and in private mode and still get the same thing.
I have found the issues tab in the console and here is everything showing on there. Though nothing new shows up when I click on the Follow button even though it is still acting the same and giving me the error popup
-
helper-heroponriki, I get the same error when trying to follow the OP’s site from the link in the Reader feed. If it helps, I had this same error when trying to follow the flickr blog (VIP) and reported it to Support on the 23rd of June.
FF89.0.2 on Win10Pro, but occurred also on Brave and MSEdge (latest) as well.

Here is what happens when I click on the follow button if it helps at all.

Hm, there isn’t much in the browser errors that would point to a problem with this.
Please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
-
I have just tried using Chrome 91.0.4472.124
After clearing cache and cookies. No change.
After turning of all extensions and apps. No Change.
Using Edge Browser 91.0.864.59
Clearing cache and cookies. No change.
Turning off extensions and apps. No change.

Hi there,
The issue is not with your browser – I see the error as well, so this is on our end.
Errors like this can sometimes happen with sites migrated from WordPress.com to Jetpack, but looking at your site’s feed it doesn’t appear to be what’s causing this in this case. So we’ll need a developer to look into this.
I’ve opened a request for help with this, but I’m not able to tell you when we might expect a reply on that, as currently our team is only focusing on widespread issues rather than issues specific to a single site, so it might be a while.
-
I see when you migrated your site to the current host, you also added a Site Redirect upgrade to the original WordPress.com site to send your traffic to the new site.
To rule out that the site redirect isn’t causing the issue, can we temporarily remove that upgrade to see if that makes any difference?
I’ll need you to confirm as the
wouldburnaccount, as that’s the account that owns your site and the redirect upgrade. -

Hi there,
I just temporarily removed the site direct subscription. Clear your browser’s cache, and then let’s see if that does the trick with eliminating the error you’re getting. Keep us updated.
Thanks,

All right! that seems to of worked. I tried it on 2 different browsers and it seems to be fixed now
