Not all followers are showing up in stats and follower widget
-
I’m seeing a discrepancy in the follower counts for two WordPress.com blogs I manage. I’ve been getting quite a few notifications of new followers with an outlook.com email address, but only a tiny percentage of these end up being displayed on my stats list or on the follower widget on the main site page. Yes, it’s quite possible that some start to follow the blog then unfollow it, but it’s been happening on both websites which are very different from one another, with completely different target audiences. And the discrepancy is always just with the outlook.com addresses, nothing else. On one blog, I’ve counted about 25 outlook.com followers, almost none of whom are listed as email followers on the stats section of that blog.
Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Hi there,
The random follows you’ve been receiving from @outlook.com addresses are spam, and those followers are apparently unfollowing sites the moment after they confirm their subscription, triggering the notification email to you. Only they know why they’re doing it this way.
We are working on blocking these follows completely before they happen, but for now it’s best to just ignore them.
