Not all of my TypePad files imported
-
I am trying to import my TypePad site to WordPress. The first few posts seem fine, but I noticed less than 600 out of 5600 posts migrated. How do I fix this?

Hi,
When I clicked on “run exporter,” it immediately went to “processing,” without letting me click on my exported file from TypePad? (Also, I was wrong, only 100 files migrated.) Very confused.

Hello again @bitsofclutter. It looks like the importer is available to run another import. Please would you try running the importer again on your side.
-
That usually happens when the export file is too large or times out during the import. Try splitting the TypePad export into smaller chunks and re-importing that normally gets all posts moved over.

When moving from TypePad to WordPress, it’s common for only part of the content to transfer if the import process hits a limit.
Things to check and try:
- Export file size – The TypePad export file can be very large. If it’s too big, WordPress may only process part of it. Split the file into smaller chunks and import them one by one.
- Importer tool – Use the Movable Type and TypePad importer inside WordPress. Make sure it’s updated to the latest version, since older ones can fail on large files.
- Server limits – Low memory, file size, or time limits on your server can stop the importer midway. Increasing PHP memory, file upload size, and execution time usually helps.
- Re-run the import – The importer normally skips posts it has already brought in, so you can safely re-run it with the next chunk until everything is migrated.
- Alternative tools – If the standard importer keeps failing, you may need to use a migration service or custom script that handles large sites better.
In short: break your export into smaller parts and adjust server limits if necessary. This almost always resolves the issue so all your posts come through.
