issue #3. I somehow created another site. How do I delete that site or should I keep it around for experimentation?

I just discovered the preview button. I also found the dashboard.
So one less issue but so more to learn.(It’s hard to hold the hand of anyone reaching for the sky just to surrender.) -L. Cohen

Hi Richard, glad the preview and dashboard were found. :)
issue #2. How do I change the size and independently change the color of the box around my menu choices (Home/Blog/contact/
Are you wanting them to be different colors when not hovered, or different colors when hovered? Also, the theme has a set color for the current page item as an aid to visitors so they can easily see which page they are on (the blue). Are you wanting to change that as well? The following would allow you to set the hover and non-hover colors for each independently. We use the unique menu item CSS id to do this, which you can find by using the web inspector built into your browser.
/*change size of menu item boxes*/.main-navigation a { padding: 9px 15px; } /*change background colors on menu items*/ .main-navigation #menu-item-11 a { background-color: red; color: white; } .main-navigation #menu-item-11 a:hover { background-color: lime !important; } .main-navigation #menu-item-10 a { background-color: orange; color: white; } .main-navigation #menu-item-10 a:hover { background-color: yellow !important; } .main-navigation #menu-item-12 a { background-color: blueviolet; color: white; } .main-navigation #menu-item-12 a:hover { background-color: blue !important; } /*change background color on current menu item*/ .main-navigation li.current-menu-item a { background-color: teal !important; }Let me know on the above code and if you need help with adjustments. I’ve used named colors so that you can easily see what is what.
On your second site, I would suggest keeping it and using it for things like trying out new themes and keep it set to Private. You can export your content from your main site and then import it into the other site so that you have your content in that test site.
For the WordPress basics, I would suggest working through our Learn WordPress Tutorials.
For CSS, we have some resources in our support section that can get you going.

Thank you for you reply….kidding about a suicide prevention program.
It’s daunting, the learning curve.I’ll dive into the getting started and tutorials, A while ago I read a book on html and css which I’ll review.
If I want to add the css you sent me please tell me is it a simple process as going here: here
and pasting in your code?I very much appreciate you help.

I have this: rsdigitalart.wordpress.com listed here: https://wordpress.com/pages/rsdigitalart.wordpress.com
I can’t edit css. I understand that is because it is a free site which will not allow for much customization. I wanted to use it to showcase my digital artwork but for now I have my work on Instagram: richard.sherdigital.art
Is this free site a good use of my time and energy or is it better to either host it for nothing on Instagram of pay for the premium account here at WordPress?
Lastly, I have this other site that I am told I am not the admin and thus I can’t delete it. I would so much like to be done with it and start over. Can you tell me how I can resolve this multi year quest to make it disappear forever?
Best,
Richard Sher

Sorry about the broken of should I say the inaccessible link from my reply link it is in my control panel and it reads : https://costaricamountainlife.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcostaricamountainlife.wordpress.com%2F
I mean to ask you if I should past the css code in to the left hand control panel that lists CSS. between widgets and content options or is that not the way to go here?
Sorry I don’t know the name of that menu. Not the dashboard a simplified menu. There is so much new material here, just working my way into it all.

I can not find a way to preview the new CSS code.
I inserted the code in the css window https://costaricamountainlife.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcostaricamountainlife.wordpress.com%2Fbut I’m afraid to publish fearing that I’ll create more problems.

Richard, go to Customize > CSS, delete all the informational text in that window, and paste in the custom CSS I gave above and publish, and don’t worry about breaking your site. If something doesn’t work, just go back to Customize > CSS and delete what you added and publish again.
I used the web inspector built into my browser to find the relevant CSS. If you are not familiar with the web inspector in your browser, take a look at our support page on How to Find Your Theme’s CSS where you will find some brief screencasts to get you started with it. I find it an invaluable tool when working with CSS. You can make changes there and then copy the changes out and paste into a plain text file and then try them on your live site.
Virtually all CSS changes you make should be reflected in the preview pane to the right of the CSS entry area. If the CSS is specific to a certain page, then you would have to navigate to that page in the Preview section in order to see that change.

I hope it’s ok to keep messaging you. IF it’s overwhelming let me know and I’ll refrain.
So I want to change my username;

in Account settings there are these options :Would you like a matching blog address too?
Yes, create a new blog to match my new user name
Yes, change rsdigitalart.wordpress.com to match my new username and discard the old address
Yes, change rsdigitalart.wordpress.com to match my new username and create an empty blog with the old address
No, don’t create a matching blog address.
I have no idea what to select.
Is this something a should lear for another time?
How do I depermine what of these options to select.Thank you once more.

You know, if you are wanting it to say something else as the displayed name on posts and comments, you can do that without changing the actual username. Go to your WP Admin dashboard and to Users > My Profile and set a Public Display Name and then save.
Otherwise, if you are just wanting to change the username, select the last option, No, don’t create a matching blog address.
-
OK, thank you
Why would I not want to change my username?
Using a name that is related to this project seems to make more sense.Best;
Richard

If you set the display name you want to appear on all comments and posts, it seems like it would accomplish the same thing really. That is what people would see. Your username would not appear anywhere, but here in the forums. The thing is though, it is what YOU want, not what my opinion is. :)
I see you have changed it.

When I go to my blog page: https://costaricamountainlife.wordpress.com/blog/
The text I want to appear upon arrival requires that the user click on the tille “Finding the best building materials“inorder to see what I wrote: I like to avoid concrete block. I prefer wood which works up here because of the cooler temps…What should I do inorder for the text to appear when visiting the blog page. (or is that page considered a post by WordPress is that something I need to sort out?)
Thank you again.

Richard, we can add that text by using a bit of CSS trickery. The following limits this to this particular post by post CSS id, and also limits it only to the blog page. You can adjust the text, font size, and color for the text as desired.
.blog #post-124 .entry-title::after { display: block; content: "I prefer wood which works up here because of the cooler temps..."; color: #fff; font-size: 45%; }The one thing to remember is as you add additional posts, this post will be pushed down and the newer posts will appear above it. If you wish it to stay attached to the top of the blog page, you will need to apply the featured tag to it.

Thanks for you reply,
I want the entire post to show up not just the string I sent you: I prefer wood which works up here because of the cooler temps…
This short string displayed just fine but when I added the entire text it would not display it. IS there a text limit by default or could I have broken the code by using too much text? This is what I want to be beneath the title: Finding the best building materials.
I also want this title to be smaller.I like to avoid concrete block. I prefer wood which works up here because of the cooler temps. But with wood I would need to add studs 18″ on center adding Sheetrock, It is really not the way I want to go here but is is a viable solution. the rainy season can last several months. and drywall could get damp. This is why most home are build with block. it lasts. Anyway. my latest thrill is straw bales. But here in Costa Rica finding bales of hay I’m told day be difficult. I’ll need to look into that. Another approach is insulated concrete forms, Foam with two on inch thick walls of concrete. These are quick to put up and I have see the results, there good.
It’s up in the air as to what to do with this land. My first idea was to build little cabinas for people to purchase and participate in the process of growing food. This way the owners ca neat for sweat equity, as the crop increases in size and diversity,. the value of their investment correlates. Kinda like organic bitcoin. (There’s a joke in there, somewhere.)
After so consideration I’m considering that the cabinas be be better suited for short term visits. The guests get schooled in the ways of self reliance and manage the permaculture. They still participate in eating the organic food grown on the property and if they want to stay on that could be arranged as well.
I tried adding the entire body of this test but it would not display it.
Maybe there is a better way for me to understand this issue..
All I want is to have a Blog page, post my daily ideas.Could I be somehow making my life way more difficult?

Ah, Radcliffe does not show the post content or an excerpt on the blog/category/archive pages, and that div is not generated in the html for the page, so there isn’t a way for us to make the content appear.
There is another option, that you can try in a draft page. Create a new draft page for testing and then use the Display Posts Shortcode in that page. The thing is, the styling will not be anything like the styling of the “Blog” page since the Display Posts Shortcode is designed to work with any theme, so it has some pretty minimal styling. On the page I reference, you will also find attributes you can add to the shortcode to include excerpts or content, and display a featured image, if the post has one. Play with that and see if it would be acceptable.
