Not an easy read, I'm perplexed with the most simple tasks.

    For replacing the header image on the blog page, I randomly grabbed an image from your media library, which you can switch by replacing the URL of the image in the background declaration.

    .blog .custom-header img {
      visibility: hidden !important;
    }
    .blog .custom-header a {
      background: url('https://costaricamountainlife.files.wordpress.com/2018/02/pano_20170514_135052.jpg') no-repeat scroll center center / cover;
    }

    Thank you so much for your updates.

    Yes, in fact my blog page is updated with my new posts. …It must take time to update.
    I’m going to spend some time tomorrow reading the links you sent.
    I’ll look at the CSS code.

    Best,

    Richard

    I am attempting to create a sidebar for Dara.
    I set up a Google map and received the necessary authentication but I don’t know how to make the sidebar visable?

    I went to Widgets>sidebar> and entered this:

    Title:
    You can find me here:

    Address:
    Near the town of Hojancha

    Show map

    Google Maps API Key
    AIzaSyAm-na6gmw2Ixe-K30sbOBsnVXJWeSU5NA

    Google now requires an API key to use their maps on your site. See our documentation for instructions on acquiring a key.

    Phone:
    506 8870 7160

    Hours:
    TBA

    Remove | Done Visibility

    Please advise.

    Thank you once more,

    Richard

    I still can not display the sidebar.

    I see one widget in your sidebar widget area when I go into your dashboard. You have Widget Visibility set to show only on Author and Front page. Go into that widget, click Visibility and remove those two filters and save and the sidebar should then appear on your blog page and contact page. Dara will not show widgets on the home page.

    There is a die bar on the Blog page. I would like the sidebar to appear on the main(hoem) page as well I want a Google map to appear I but I see this message: The Google Maps API server rejected your request. This API project is not authorized to use this API.

    Knowing my throughthis forum I would like to ask you if I should change from wp.com to wp.org?

    Thank you,

    Richard

    does it matter what ISP I use for hosting?
    I have an account for my other site http://www.casacanopy.com (not a wp created site) with Fatcow.
    Do you consider this host a viable option?

    No it wouldn’t matter, just choose one that is ok with WordPress, but going self-hosted isn’t going to fix the issue with the sidebar on the main page. With a self-hosted site you would need to create a child theme of Dara and then copy over the necessary php script files and add the necessary php script to add a sidebar to the main page and then adjust and redesign the main page so that there is room for the sidebar and things don’t look wonky.

    Dara doesn’t have the coding for a sidebar on the main front page.

    Do you recomend wp.org for me at this point ?

    WP.org requires more work, even though WordPress has made self-hosting much easier than it used to be. Also, as far as bigger modifications to a theme, such as adding a sidebar to the home page of Dara, requires a good knowledge of php scripting. Self-hosting does give you a boat load of control, but it is more complex.

    If I had known you were wanting a sidebar on the home page, I would have suggested different themes than you are using now.

    Given the above, I would have suggested something like Penscratch 2, Shoreditch, or Libre 2

    Sorry this is going round and round for you, and sorry for the frustration I know you are experiencing.
