Not being notified of likes
-
Hi,
This is not a huge major big deal at all, but its been going on for a long time and I am wondering why and what if anything can be done about it:
The total number of likes shows up next to each post on the list of posts, but when somebody “likes” a post there is no notification in the little icon in the upper right corner of the top black bar. Why is this and can it be fixed so I can know who or what is “liking” my posts?
Its not a big deal (and might even be a blessing since a lot of likers are non-genuine and are horrendous spammers and attention seekers), but I’m just curious about it and it might in some cases be nice/good/helpful to know those who are clicking “like”.
Thanks for your time and attention in advance.

First, make sure you have your settings set up correctly.
Go to http://clararayrusinekklein.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php
Email me whenever
_Anyone posts a comment
_A comment is held for moderation
_Someone likes one of my posts
_Someone reblogs one of my posts
_Someone follows my blog“save changes”
Then go to https://wordpress.com/me/notifications
Select “Post Likes”
“save changes” -
You will also want to make sure yout email address is correct here https://wordpress.com/me/account
“save account settings”
-
Lastly, it’s possible that the emails are in your email spam filter so check it and see this support doc too https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-notifications/gmail-issues/

Hi timethief, thanks for responding.
All the settings are correct, it’s just that the little icon on the top black bar doesn’t turn light up/turn orange when somebody clicks “like”. I don’t really want to get emails for likes, I was just referring to the little notification icon that’s supposed to light up on the top black bar when somebody clicks “like”.
Why isn’t that little icon lighting up when somebody clicks “like”? I have the little box ticked/checked in the notifications settings.

The button works for me. 1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/

The little icon in the far right of the top black bar does turn orange/light up when somebody replies to one of my comments that I’ve made somewhere, just not when somebody “likes” one of my posts for some reason. Why would it light up only for comment replies but not for likes? That seems really strange.
I’m using a laptop with the latest version of Google Chrome.

Also, the site I need help with is https://aquietcourage.wordpress.com/, not https://clararayrusinekklein.wordpress.com/.
https://aquietcourage.wordpress.com/ is an additional (second) site on the main clararayrusinekklein account.
-
Although since the two sites are on the same account and are connected, the problem of the notification icon not lighting up/not turning orange would happen in the top black bar of both sites (though https://clararayrusinekklein.wordpress.com/ doesn’t have any posts that can be “liked” since it’s not a blog.)

Hi there,
You have Likes turned off on all your posts I checked. With Likes turned off the Like button does not appear on posts, nor are any likes displayed at the bottom of posts.
Even with Likes turned off, visitors can still like your posts directly from the Reader, but you won’t get a notification for those likes according to my testing of this.

Hi kokkieh,
I really appreciate your taking the time to respond to me, thanks very much for that.
I thought the little notification icon would light up/turn orange even when a post is “liked” from the reader, but I guess that’s not the case. Oh well.
Thanks for responding, and happy new year.
-
PS: Just out of curiosity, why is it the case that posts “liked” from the reader will not light up the little notification icon on the top black bar?
And will this ever be changed in the future so that those likes do light up the little notification icon?
-
I think this is a case that if you have Likes disabled in a post, you won’t receive notifications for it even if people like via the Reader.
If you have Likes enabled, you should get notifications for Reader Likes as well.
I’ll test this some more in case I’m wrong.
-
It’s not a big deal, but why is this the case, and will it ever be changed in the future?
-
I can only assume the people who designed this thought if you had Likes disabled, you also won’t want to receive notifications if Likes came in via the Reader. But that’s an assumption as I can’t find any specific information about it.
I’ll try to find out more and I’ll let you know if I do.
