Not Found not redirecting to default page

I get the below message when I enter disposableideas.com/lorem_ipsum or any invalid URL…Support page states it should redirect to the home page … but not happening.
Thoughts?

Just to clarify, you will get a 404 error if you try to visit a page that doesn’t exist on your site. However, the 404 error message includes a link that directs you back to your site’s home page.
If you have any questions about how that works, please let me know!

Wrong answer. If I host myself I add a plugin and voila no 404 error messages. I expect a similar option when I pay for someone else to host.

I’m sorry that you’re unhappy with how 404 errors work here at WordPress.com. If you’d prefer, you’re welcome to move your site and domain to a self-hosted WordPress.org installation.
