Not getting help
-
I posted on the 20th October that my notification history had disappeared. I posted an update on the 24th. I’m so surprised that eight days later I’ve still had no response.
If I click on the little notification symbol (top right hand corner) I can now see ‘likes’ going back a few days but none prior to that.
I found them particularly helpful for tracking comments on Community Pool as, although I checked the box under ‘notifications, comments, replies to your comments’, I still don’t receive an e-mail if someone replies, so don’t have a ‘hard copy’ so to speak to check I haven’t missed one.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Know also that security and firewall programs and programs that run incognito mode may need to be temporarily disabled as well.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful please provide this specific info:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(c) Exactly what you experience including exactly what any error reports you receive state. -
Hi @simonjwood, can you confirm what browser you’re using, and whether you see the same thing in other browsers?
We can log in as you to test this, but that could affect current notifications, so I’d like you to try another browser first. Thanks!

Hello, I just looked on another computer using Internet Explorer and it showed the same, the notification records only go back to about the 24th October. The browser I use on my computer (MacBook Pro 2011) is Firefox, currently 49.0.2.
-
@simonjwood is it okay if I do some testing from your account? The caveat is that it may turn off the notification “bell” while I’m checking.

Thanks @simonjwood, the oldest one I see is a scheduled post going live; that seems to have been on 10/20 and I do see some notifications around that.
Normally you wouldn’t be able to scroll through notifications older than a few weeks anyway.
If it helps, you can check your overall “like” stats here:
https://wordpress.com/stats/day/simonjwood.wordpress.com?tab=likesAnd you can view all comments here:

Hello. Thanks for your reply. I note that my notifications go back to October 20th, as you mention, but previously they went back to August 22nd. I’m sorry it doesn’t look as if I’m going to get them back (and I don’t understand why they should have disappeared) as they were a source of useful information and a quick way to access comments I’d left on Community Pool.
Regarding Community Pool, although I have checked the correct box (see above), I don’t get e-mails when people reply to my comments. I CAN get notifications however.
The first link you gave just takes me to the normal ‘days’ view, not to any specific list of ‘likes’ and the second is to the dashboard comments section. The latter is what I use to make sure I have replied to all the comments on my blog, but it DOESN’T include comments left on Community Pool, or presumably other external blogs.
Also, I’d be interested to know if there is an easy way of printing out a list of followers, together with their blog names and actual dates they started following? I’ve found different ways of viewing followers but none give this information and I can’t print them out except by multiple screen shots.
Incidentally, I recently installed the My Community widget, which is great, but seems to show a maximum of 50 gravitars and there doesn’t seem to be a way to adjust this.

Yup, notifications only go so far back, sorry for that. They aren’t meant to be a permanent archive.
We can troubleshoot your email issues if you’d like, though, since you can keep email as long as you choose.
We don’t have a way to export reader followers. You can export email followers if you’d like, though.
-
If you could see what’s going on with the e-mails that would be very useful. In notifications, under comments (the second option) I have enabled notifications and e-mails for replies, as I mentioned previously. However, I have not received a single e-mail when anyone has left a reply to my comments on Community Pool. I have only known about it from the notification icon.
Strangely, I HAVE received e-mails informing me that someone has liked my comment on Community Pool, although I normally have that option off.
-
Hmm. I’m looking over your recent stuff; did you get a comment notification for the comment on “To Steal a Dream” ?
Also, I noticed you have new comment emails turned off for your own site here:
https://wordpress.com/following/editCan you adjust that to see if it helps?
-
Hello, yes, I got the comment notification for Steal a Little Dream but no e-mail regarding that comment from PaminatOr.
I just looked at your link and see what you mean. E-mails for comments are turned off under my blog name. I don’t remember why and if I did that! I’ve turned them on now.
On the other hand if I go to the little icon in the middle at the top right and select notifications, comments, they ARE turned on. The notification part of that works OK so that’s why I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting e-mail notifications for comments on Community Pool. It could be that it will now work. I’ll let you know. Many thanks.
-
@simonjwood you can override the default settings for individual sites. It looks like that’s what was done here.
-
Hello. I posted on Community Pool a little earlier today (Mon 7th Nov) and just received a reply to my post. I received a notifiction about it but NO e-mail, despite having turned on the setting you mentioned above (under Managed Sites). I remember now that I turned this off as I was getting duplicate e-mails whenever anyone liked my posts.

-
If you want to get emails of new comments on someone else’s blog posts, you’ll need to check that box.
https://cloudup.com/cgNNIdyglQNI’d kind of recommend against it for this site though.
-
Sorry, I don’t understand. I want to get an e-mail if someone replies to MY comments on Community Pool. Right now I can elect to get an e-mail if someone LIKES my comment (not a lot of use) but I CAN’T get one if someone REPLIES to my comment. It appears that checking the e-mail box under notifications, comments doesn’t work.
-
Hmm, you can subscribe to all posts on a site, or to all comments on a post, but not to a comment’s comments. I will file a request for that feature, though.
