NOT HAPPY

I just got my blog and upgraded, however, I understood that I would be able to place ads (I guess I need wp.org)… Is there anyway I can change my sevice to wp.org? Or get a refund on my upgrades so I can take my blog elsewhere??

    Thanks, Jennifer

Refunds on most upgrades can be refunded for 30 day. Domain names for only 2 days, but don’t cancel your domain name if you bought it here as it can take up to 60 days before that name would be available again. If you bought your domain name here, you can point it at your new webhost.

To have a .ORG blog, you have to hire a web host such as bluehost, dreamhost, etc., install and configure the wordpress.ORG software on that web host and then if you have any content here, you have to export it from here and import it into the new site. Most web hosts offer a sort of “one-click” installation script for wordpress, but you will have to check with the web host you are looking at using.

Figure an average monthly cost, all things considered, of about $10 to $25 depending on your requirements. (Just a note: Most people I know do not make enough revenue off their advertising to pay their hosting and domain costs. Some of that of course depends on audience. Some types of people are more likely to click on ads that others. Also there is a growing number of people using adblocking add-ons in their browsers. I’ve been using them for years and virtually never see ads anywhere.)

Self-hosting comes with added responsibilities. You are responsible for all installations, all upgrades, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure it out and fix it.

I should add that it is far easier today to self-host than it used to be, but with a self-hosted installation, you can’t go to a forum or click on a support contact link and say fix it. YOU are support for yourself basically.
