not possible to ‘like’ a post in wordpress.com

    I am logged in wordpress blog, try to like a post (any post) from another blogger on wordpress.com. It does not work (the ‘like’ does not appear after clicking, no matter what I do // I tried it on various posts from various wordpress blogs!).
    Why?

    Hi there:

    Could you try logging out of your WordPress.com account here first?

    https://wordpress.com/me

    Then, log back in again and try to like a post again? If that still doesn’t work, please take a screenshot of the problem in question. If you’re not familiar on how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:

    Then, use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.

    thank you! There is nothing to be seen or screenshoot when the “not liking” happens. I simply pus the like button and then a pop-up window appears for a fraction of a second (too short to make a screenshot), and that’s all. The window that appears shortly has noting inside and is rather small (looks like the browser is trying to open some login window, even if I am logged in).

    Hi there,

    From what I can see you appear to be using Chrome as your browser, yes? To be able to “like” content on other sites, your login information needs to be stored as a “cookie” in your browser. It can be the case that there is an issue with the cookie (or you are blocking cookies generally speaking) which will make it impossible to click the like button.

    With this in mind I would like you to try the following:

    – clear your cache and cookies based on the steps google recommends here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050
    – Also make sure you are not blocking any “3rd party cookies” as explained in that guide as well.
    – log out (if you are not already) and then log back in to WordPress.com

    Are you able to like content after you complete those two steps? If you continue to have loading issues after completing those steps, I would like you to try another browser instead, like Firefox. Are you able to proceed if you use a browser other than Chrome?

    thanks for your kind explanations!
    I did not think of the browser… Yes, indeeed, with another browser it works:

    1) Vivaldi (chromium) browser: does not work (as described before), whatever I do;

    2) MS Edge 89 works without any problems.

    I will tell this to the Vivaldi support.

    There must be some setting that is wrong in your Settings. I have been using Vivaldi here on WordPress for several years and have had few issues. Even in the days the browser identified itself as Vivaldi.
    I have Vivaldi’s Tracking Blocker active, and that is it.
    When I had uBlock Origin active there were no issues, though I recall having to tweak some settings to get “Notifications”.
    Cookies are set for Session.
    All Third Party Cookies are blocked.

    Perhaps I can assist?

    That is probably the best recourse as the the Vivaldi Blog is based on WordPress and hopefully one of their Blogging developers can help in some way.
