Not receiving any SMS Verification
-
I used to have a wordpress website on wordpress.com but decided to host it somewhere else and then finally selfhosting it myself.
recently I just want to comment on a wordpress blog so just put my email and it auto filed and says I have a WordPress account, sure enough I know I have. I inuput the password I remember and it failed to login. No worries I just clock forgot the password and it said it sent a SMS message, and I received one for the code and was able to access my account.
Checked my security and there where a few red marks there, so I filled my backup email and verify the email, and when I saw my phone number it was not mine, it was strange since I just received an SMS giving me the code so I could reset my password. No worries I’ll just re-enter my phone number and verify it and it indeed sent a verification text to my phone and was able to verify it.
All good and no more red marks on my security page, and I was able to comment on the wordpress blog which was my initial goal.
Saved my details on my password manager and log-out so I could test if everything is working (which I always do if I changed my password), then when it reached the sending text message for OTP, nothing, I’m receiving nothing.
– Request a login link does not work and just said the link is expired.
– Checked my email and verified that I’ve inputted my correct number and it’s correct.
– I’m only receiving notification only on my backup email address -
I can confirm that you have Two-Step Authentication (2SA) active on your account, and have confirmed that you have received your backup codes.
What I recommend here is to login to WordPress.com, using one of these backup codes. If you’re trying to use a magic login, I suggest resetting your password.
You can then deactivate 2SA, and choose to use another method (e.g. Google Authenticator) instead of SMS.
If you continue to have issues accessing your account, please complete the account recovery form.
Hope that helps.
