Not receiving notification on comments except for author of post

Hi! All members on our private site used to receive notification emails of comments made in a post if we had made a comment and checked the ‘Notify me of new comments by email’. Now, and for about a year or so, we do not receive the emails unless we author the post. This is annoying, as we have one main poster and the others of us just chime in to the daily post. Now we have to go check the site to see if all members replied, which is in essence ‘checking in’ so that we know that all is well with them.

It would be nice to get back to all members receiving the notifications for comments made.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Hi there, since you mention that this occurs on a Private site, I’ve flagged this thread for Staff attention and assistance. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

It would be nice to get back to all members receiving the notifications for comments made.

Can you tell us the usernames of the members who are not receiving notifications please?

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

There are only three of us. Barb is our main poster, she posts a morning greeting and then Nitta and myself, Anita, reply and we have discussions from there. Barb gets notifications of our comments, but Nitta and I do not. I only noticed that the author received the notifications when I authored a “happy birthday” the other day and suddenly I had notifications. I would venture to guess that Barb may not get notifications, either, of posts she does not author.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for confirming. To clarify, when someone writes a post on this site, they are automatically subscribed to comments… so they see every comment that is added to the post.

However, if you are not the author of the post, and just leaving a comment, you are not automatically subscribed to comments. Instead, when you leave your comment, be sure to check this box:

You will need to do this once per blog post , so if you click that when you leave your first comment, you will see all other comments that come after. More info here: https://wordpress.com/support/following-comments/

Let us know if you need further assistance or if you have any questions.

    staff-totoro,

    In the OP, @anitahill said:

One thing for users to check might be the “Email me new comments” part of the notification settings for that site at their Manage Followed Sites page.

The settings are described and illustrated at the Email Settings for Specific Blogs section of the Following Blogs support page. Note, by the way, that both the instructions and the illustrative image in that section need updating. The settings presently look like the image below:

Yes, we always check the “Notify me of new comments via email” box, and still we do not receive the notifications.

    @musicdoc1

We had checked settings before, but I have now turned on all of those options—we’ll see if that works.

Yes, I believe that did it! Thanks @musicdoc1!
