(NOT) Redirecting to a primary domain
-
I already had a domain name registered with a registrar besides WordPress and mapped the domain so it points to WordPress (still waiting for it to take effect).
Now Step 4 here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ says:
“Step 4: Go to the Store → My Domains page, select the radio button next to the domain you just mapped to your blog, and click the Update Primary Domain button. This will make your example.wordpress.com domain automatically redirect to your new domain.”My domains currently are lindacovella.com (primary) and lindacovella.wordpress.com.
I don’t want my new domain that I just mapped to “redirect” to lindacovella.com, if I’m understanding correctly from here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
“Setting the Primary Domain: It is possible to map several domain names or subdomains to a single site. In this case, you’ll need to choose one domain as the primary. All other domains associated with the site will still forward to the site, but the address that appears in your browser’s address bar will always switch to the primary domain.”
Is there a way to make the new domain NOT redirect to the primary? I want to have 2 websites (and later a third) in WordPress totally unrelated to each other.
Thank you!!

Two web sites require that you have two different WordPress.COM blogs – you just do domain mapping twice with different custom domain names mapped to different base blogs

Primary Blog is Set
lindacovella.com is set as the primary domain for lindacovella.wordpress.com and will appear in the address bar when you visit the site.
One down – now you have the instructions down – next one is easier

Thanks again for your help!
Ok, I think I understand, but still a little confused about the primary.I need to register a new *blog* (mynewblog.wordpress.com), then I can map the *domain* mynewblog.com to mynewblog.wordpress.com. Is that right?
If so, then in “My Domains” will both blogs and both domains be listed (lindacovella.wordpress.com, mynewblog.wordpress.com, lindacovella.com and mynewblog.com)?
And if that’s the case, which becomes the primary, and what does that actually do (if only one can be primary)?
Newbie…learning :-) I appreciate your help!

I think I figured it out :-) Earlier, I mapped mynewblog.com to lindacovella.com, so I will cancel that. I created a new blog mynewblog.wordpress.com and will map mynewblog.com to that.
Hope this is it. I didn’t realize that I should be working on a completely new/different blog/dashboard to do the mapping and upgrade. Now it seems obvious:-)
Thanks again for your help!!

Glad it is starting to make sense – you be welcome for the help
I created a new blog mynewblog.wordpress.com and will map mynewblog.com to that.
And mynewblog.com would normally be the Primary domain – yes that is the way
When you have domain mapping to a WordPress.COM blog – lets call it Koolblog.wordpress.com – you can only have one primary domain – lets call it cool.com – your set cool.com as primary and cool.com is what visitors see in the browser address bar. Now to make it a bit more confusing – you can also map another custom domain name to it – lets use koool.com (note the k & extra “o”) – that can also be mapped to koolblog.wordpress.com – but koool.com can not also be set as the Primary blog.
