Not renewing domain and hosting but don’t want to lose posts

    Hi,

    I registered my domain and paid for hosting years ago, when I lived in a different country, and haven’t used it since 2018. The price has gone up significantly (especially with the exchange rate!) so I don’t think I will renew it.

    However, I don’t want to lose my existing posts. When I am logged in at WordPress I have different sites to choose from – the custom domain has all my published posts – is there a way I can avoid losing these? I may one day re-register my domain (or a different one if this is no longer available) but it doesn’t seem the right thing to do at this point in time.

    As you can likely tell I am not the most savvy – any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi –

    If the domain was connected to WordPress.com, and you let it expire, then the entire site content will be available on the free version of that site.

    Share the domain in question so we can take a better look at this.

    Hi Liz,

    This is where everything is published; http://bitontheside.org/
    When I go to the site with WordPress in the url it has no published posts.

    This domain used to be connected to a WordPress.com site, but it’s not anymore. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with Siteground.

    Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.     I would suggest exporting your content before letting your subscriptions expire. You can look for help at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
