Not showing the border of rows and columns of a table yet?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello the stuff of WP :-),

    I try to insert a Table Block in my blog note but not showing the border of rows and columns of this table yet. I have to manage to move and click my mouse to find out the rest columns (except the first column) of each line. The following two number of links are my screenshots.

    https://quanwenzhao.files.wordpress.com/2021/04/test_creating_table_block_2.png

    By the way I’ve also found out the Table Block Guide in our support search page.

    As you can see the previous guide the border of table’s rows and columns is really showing, hope to be able to show them when creating a table block.

    @quanwenzhao Hi there,

    Browsing through your blog a bit, I have found that you are using a table at the end of the following post, where you added the update with date April 12:

    Three Approach finding out the different entries between two LOG files

    Therefore I would like to ask if you tried the same process for creating a table in your new post, but using the “Default” from the available block styles, as seen in the document you found and I am linking again here for your convenience:

    Hope this helps, let us know how it went!

    Hello anastas10s :-),

    Yes, the first time I use a the Table Block in my new blog post. You know those 2 number of screenshots in the previous thread have been separately tested in a Test Post (now in the Draft of my background). Whatever the styles of a table, either “Default” or “Stripes”, anyone of which is never showing the border of rows and columns of this table. Please note and also you can test it.

    @quanwenzhao Interesting. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this on my end -and this is the second day I am trying to.

    Upon adding a test 3×4 table block, then selecting “Edit as HTML” from the block’s controls flowing right above it, I get this code:

    <figure class="wp-block-table"><table><tbody><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

    Here is a screenshot of where to find the option:

    Kindly try the same and share the output here.

    Hi anastas10s :-),

    I think your screenshot is normal. Are you testing it for the table block in a classic block editor?

    By the way my current WP plan is free (not vip), is this related to it?

    @quanwenzhao Hi there,

    my current WP plan is free (not vip), is this related to it?

    I have tested this on a free plan also, there is no difference.

    Are you testing it for the table block in a classic block editor?

    I am testing with the WordPress block Editor, same like you as I see from your screenshots.

    Again, here is a screenshot of where to find the option to “Edit as HTML” from the table block’s controls:

    Kindly try it and share the output here.

    Cheers!

    @anastas10s Hello there :-),

    My “Edit as HTML” is as follows:

    <figure class="wp-block-table is-style-regular"><table><tbody><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

    But I eliminate “is-style-regular” and return the visually and then go to “Edit as HTML” it still have “is-style-regular”. Other contents are all the same to yours.

    @quanwenzhao Believe it or not it is your theme currently in use to blame: Twenty Eleven

    Just tried to activate the same theme on my test site and I faced the same issue, with the table block.

    Have a look at the “Twenty Nineteen” instead and activate it if you like:
    https://wordpress.com/theme/twentynineteen

    It keeps most, if not all, of the features I believe you liked with “Twenty Eleven” while also enables you to work better and publish with less hassle.
    Mind you, those two themes have been published as the default WordPress theme with 8 years in between so some adjustments will be needed through the Customizer. (Appearance -> Customizer)

    Hope this helps resolve your issue, let us know how it went, cheers!

    Hello @anastas10s :-),

    Yes, the current theme in my blog is using “Twenty Eleven”.

    Thank you very much for testing my issue in this theme. If so, I still desire to use this theme.

    Okay, I go to “Appearance -> Customizer” in my background of blog but never found out the adjustments for the setting of border of table.

    @quanwenzhao Hi there :)

    I am afraid that it is time to consider using another theme.
    Other than “Twenty Eleven”.
    Since it is a theme developed over a decade ago, it has started showing issues as you’ve already discovered.

    Again, only a suggestion but, have a look at the “Twenty Nineteen” instead and activate it if you like:
    https://wordpress.com/theme/twentynineteen

    By activating the “Twenty Nineteen” your tables will show perfectly when creating or editing a post. I have already checked this and as a theme is giving you a very similar -and refreshed- appearance to the one you already have.

    My mention of going to “Appearance -> Customizer” was to inform you that since every theme comes with its features, it is worth having a look and customizing the options that the new theme of your choice will have. Only after selecting and activating a new theme.

    Changing the theme in use is highly recommended in your case, I hope you understand.

    Hope this helps, let us know how it goes!

    Hey @anastas10s,

    Yes, thank you so much for helping me to solve my issue! Now I have used the theme with “Twenty Nineteen” in my WP blog.

    @quanwenzhao Hi there,

    Responding to your tweet over here:

    Every theme comes with its features. Therefore although image blocks can be set to wide or full width when using the “Twenty Nineteen” theme, as an example, paragraph blocks cannot do the same.

    A wider width of the paragraphs could be achieved by either choosing another theme of your liking or when having complete control over the website’s CSS.

    The complete customization of the website’s CSS is available with the Premium theme and above. See here for a complete listing of all the features of the Premium plan:
    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    Hope this helps further!
