Not sure if my site is wordpress.org or .com

I’m new to blogging and I want to make sure I am on wordpress.org and not wordpress.com so I can self host. My hosting service is BlueHost which I have paid for but I am not sure if I’m doing this correctly and actually using it. I know how to export and import my file but last time I “thought” I did this, I lost all my posts. When I say “thought”, I mean I think I migrated, but now that I’ve continued blogging I’m not sure I really did.

Now you may or may not be able to answer this, but how do I know if I am using Bluehost and I am actually self-hosting my site? I have paid for two years of hosting and paid for a domain. But I don’t remember combining wordpress with bluehost, if that’s even what I have to do.Is this something I should call BlueHost about?

If you own a server and put your site on it, it’s technically self-hosted. But the term is generally referring to any site not hosted at WP.com.
And yes, it sounds like you should contact bluehost and get clarification.
