Not sure if people still seeing my posts after I changed my blog name?

Hi. I changed my blog name and URL in November (by 3 letters, so not a drastic name change) and since then my stats have been rather low, and so has post engagement. Usually I have a core few who like and comment but even that has dwindled. I understand it could be that my content may not have been as interesting or ‘worthy” of a comment, but I would like to ask if someone can check my followers are seeing my posts in their reader feed. One person actually messaged me saying they couldn’t see my posts and that my website had been deleted (the old name for the blog). I’m wondering if people are still signed up to the old name, even though my followers list remains for the amended name.
If someone could look into this I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I would really appreciate some help with this please, as I don’t know if people are signed up to the amended name ( Enchant the Ordinary) or if they’re still signed up for the old one (Enchanting the Ordinary).
    Thank you

I would really appreciate some help with this please. I am not sure if my subscribers are still signed up for the old blog (Enchanting the Ordinary) rather than the renamed blog (Enchant the Ordinary).
    Thank you

  • Hi there,

Anyone who was following your site before the address change will still be seeing it in their Reader or getting email notifications.

But a drop in traffic after an address change is normal:

    1) Any old links that people had bookmarked, or that had been shared on social media before the address change will no longer work. The person who messaged you most likely tried visiting your site via such a link, rather than via a recent Reader post or email notification

If you still want them to work we can restore your old address, https://enchantingtheordinary.wordpress.com/, and then you can buy a site redirect upgrade for it. That will send anyone visiting the old address via an old link to the new address instead:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

    2) After an address change search engines like Google need to re-index your site at the new address, so you’ll be getting less traffic from search engines while that process is taking place. That should return to normal again within a few weeks.

But this could also just be the time of the year – activity on blogs tend to decline at this time of year as people are more busy with holiday-stuff, and tend to spend less time interacting with blogs.

One other thing – please make sure you’ve updated your web address in your profile, here:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account

That controls where your username links when you comment somewhere, so if that still links to the old address that would prevent people from reaching your site that way.

Hi Kokkieh. Thank you for your reply. The reason I asked is because the person who messaged me said she hadn’t been seeing my posts in reader or getting email notifications for my blog lately. She didn’t even realise I’d had new posts up until I left a comment on one of her posts and she clicked my username icon to go to my blog again.

I won’t need the old name reinstating, thank you.

  • Thanks @michellethereze. If she’s willing to get in touch with us, we can check her notifications to see what could be wrong.

Or, if you’ll share the email address here (only staff will be able to see it; it will automatically be redacted for everyone else) we can check to see if her server is rejecting the mail.

My best guess right now is that she’s getting the email, but it’s being sent to a “social” folder or even a junk folder. But that’s hard to know without working with her directly.
