Not Understanding "Draft"

I don’t remember being confused by this with the Classic Editor, maybe because I didn’t schedule posts when I used it.

So I’m working on a post using the Block Editor and schedule it for later publication. Then I decide to edit it. I can do so with or without first clicking “Switch to draft”. Why would I switch to draft or why would I not?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Switch to Draft option allows you to turn a published post or page back into a draft. It will not get published at the scheduled time as it will be converted to a draft post.

You will need to edit the posts and use the update button to save the changes without changing the schedule of its publish time. The changes you saved using the update button on the post will be published.

You can read more about it here: https://wordpress.com/support/editors/post-and-page-screen/

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers!

Thanks, but you’ve confused me further. Your first paragraph says a published post will not get published at the scheduled time… but it ALREADY was published.

Anyway, I wasn’t inquiring about published posts, but rather posts I have scheduled for later publication.

I also do not understand how a published post can be turned back into a draft. In my mind a draft is pre publication. Once it’s published, it’s published, period. A published piece can be edited, but I wouldn’t call that a draft, I’d call it a revision. I do not understand how a published post can become a draft again after it’s been published. Doesn’t make sense.
