Not understanding how to edit DNS

    I’m mapping to an existing website. However, I’m at the edit DNS stage and it says:

    Step 3: Next, you will need to update your domain’s “name servers” to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    But does this mean that I have to erase all of the existing DNS records and only input these three? And how do I enter them, as A or MX? And then, what goes in each of the boxes: “X” handled by “Y”?
