Not WordPress ads suddenly appearing on my site
-
My site had the typical WordPress ads, which I have NO problems with. They are very appropriate for any site. However, I uploaded an image of a map (since removed) that I had converted from a pdf to a jpg on the free site pdf2jpg.net and with the exception of my homepage, all of a sudden I began getting those weird ‘Sponsored Ads’ for toenail fungus sorts of things. I deleted the original page the map image was on and even emptied the trash, but then these ‘Sponsored Ads’ started showing up on ALL the pages except the homepage, replacing the WordPress ads. How do I get rid of them and only have WordPress ads?

Hi there:
These ads are not there because of your upload; they’re a new set of ads we’re using on free sites.
The “Sponsored Content” ads by Outbrain are part of the advertising that appears on free sites on WordPress.com. These display below the first post on the front page, and at the bottom of posts in the single-post view, same as regular WordPress.com ads.
If you think a specific ad is inappropriate, please take a screenshot of the ad, and send that, along with the URL the ad links to, via the form at https://wordpress.com/support/about-these-ads/. Then our ads team can review the ad, and follow up with Outbrain if needed.
Thanks!

They are SO gross – how could you possibly think this was a good idea. I know why, because people who are so offended by them will pay for a site. Capitalism at its worst. Except there’s some of us, senior citizen on social security, who use WordPress because that is all we can afford. And if you look at the site I’m doing, it’s trying to be non-partisan around climate change – and one of the ads that streamed through was for a congressional candidate. You’re basically saying my site is now worthless to me.

We appreciate the feedback. WordPress.com is adamant about keeping free sites free and because of that, we insert ads on free sites. These new ads are another avenue for that.
If you find any ad offensive or inappropriate, I do encourage you to report it using the form above. This will give the team feedback about these ads and try to improve them.

I have yet to find any ad from Outbrain that was not offensive. I would be spending all of my time taking screenshots and sending in reports. Sorry, but you lowered your standards with this decision. I did a workaround. LOL of course when I explained what you were doing with the gross toenail fungus ads – two of the three ads became toenail fungus ads.
