Noted that "refers section" on the "stats" page now has a designation "spam

  • Unknown's avatar

What is this “spam?” designation? The designated referring entities are not spam, as I know the blogs. When I clinked on the “spam?” designation the referring link disappeared. Are these sites now blocked? Why is there not a “bubble” indicating what this new status is and how to deal with it? Please provide sufficient details as to what this designation is, what the options are, the consequences and remedies of designating the referring entities as spam or not as spam. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Michael,

Referrer spam are links just referrers from sites that you do not want to appear in your stats. The referrer links are removed from the “Referrer” section in your Site Stats page. However, the actual site stats (views, etc) are not removed. This is explained a bit more here:

    Jetpack Stats

If you’re seeing a legitimate referrer being marked as spam, could you please let me know the referrer URL?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

The other day all referrers (including bing, google, etc) had “spam?” indicators. This is no longer the case. I tried to view the indicator (by “tapping” (was viewing on iPad) so could not “hover” a “mouse pointer on” the flag indicator to determine what the options were, believing that a new window would be opened to provide information/an election as what it meant or what to do. One of the sites is site I share postings with and do not consider spam. I would be willing to provide the URLs to you, please contact at through personal e-mail account for the URLs and how we will resolve the issue.
