Nothing easy

I’ve been trying and wasting my time for days now. Even when I get answers in the forum, these don’t work either. I watched a couple of videos and it looked like I was getting somewhere, but that didn’t last long. If there is no live help to at least get me started on the right path, then I guess this is way over my head. I was stated that wordpress has some 70% of the market, so I thought thats where I’d like to be, but trying to learn this stuff at my age without some assistance simply isn’t going to work. I don’t have enough years left to waste it, and thats all I’ve been doing. This morning I thought to delete everything and start over. I tried the blank page method, but that didn’t work, so I went back to the templates, and the home page selection disappeared. This is far too frustrating without some basic live help and the ability to get live help in real time. The problem with purchasing a plan is having to pay for a year in advance when I don’t even know if I’ll be able to grasp it then. There has got to be an easier way out there somewhere. David

explain why the home page bit disappeared, why the title always appears in the previews, why there are overlays on uploaded images, and why all pages wont open so I can get rid of the overlayThis is ridiculous

Your hasn’t been launched so we can’t help you as we can’t see what’s going on or what theme you are using. E.g. an overlay is defined by the theme you are using.

Assuming you’re referring to posts/pages, that’s normal. The preview is the entire post/page, including the title.
why there are overlays on uploaded images
It sounds like you may have a duotone filter applied to your image blocks https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/#duotone-filter
