Nothing happens when I click on add media.
That’s very strange. I tried to replicate this behavior and wasn’t successful. Could you send me a link to a page where you were having this problem and tell me a little more about the process you were using?
If you could send me screenshots of the misbehavior that would also be really helpful. Here’s information on how to do that:
Making a screenshotThose instructions suggest you add the screenshot to your media library, which might be a problem if you can’t get to your media library. If that’s the case, you can also share the screenshot by using the tool linked below:

Thanks for providing the screen shots.
Is it just in that one spot you are having trouble? I was able to get the media library to open there, so if it’s just one image in one spot you are having trouble getting to load, the easiest solution is to have me add the photo for you. If you let me know which photo you want in that spot, I’m happy to add it.
As for why the problem is happening, are you writing your posts in a word processor (like Apple pages) and copying and pasting them into your site? I noticed there is a lot of extra HTML in the text view of your post and it’s possible the extra code is causing the strange behavior.
-
I am using the on line editor and have never used any word processor. I am unable to insert any photo in any part of any document in my blog. no matter where I choose to insert a photo clicking on the add media button only takes me to the top of the page. The picture I am trying to insert is called aberglasney and I am trying to insert it at the start of the line of text “Art Exhibitions in the Mansion”.
Could the ‘extra HTML’ be coming due to copying and pasting links from another source into my blog? If it is can I remove it by redoing the links by assigning the link by using the add link feature?

Maybe, but that seems unlikely.
I see you have lots of other photos in the post already. Were you able to add those using the add media button or did you use a different process?
If you added the other photos with the add media button, is there anything that changed between when you added those photos and now?
I was able to add the photo in question for you, so that’s good news. Could you try starting a new post to see if you are able to add media there? It would be helpful to know if the problem is just in this post, or if the add media process has broken for you altogether.
-
I always use the same process, I select the point where the photo is intended to go, then click on the add media button. I either select a photo that is already in the media library or add one from my computer.
I have tried your suggestion of using a new post, unfortunately it gave the same result.
After deleting the new post I went back to my current draft and much to my surprise the problem seems to have gone. I would love to know if creating a new post had anything to do with solving the problem or whether it was affected by your insertion of the photo!
Many thanks for your help and I hope I will not have to contact you because the problem has returned.

Hi again, problem seems to have come back. I am at a loss to explain why. It just does not make any sense.
I was working on ‘February Listings’ when the problem started.

Very strange. These intermittent problems are the hardest to solve, so we’ll likely have to try a couple of different things before we nail it down.
The first step is to see if it’s browser dependent. If you are running an old version of your browser, could you upgrade to the latest version? Sometimes that solves problems like this one.
-
Strange you should mention that. I have been using Safari on Mac OS 10.5.8. on a Mac Book with an Intel dual core. I also have a Mac Book Pro on which I use Firefox. I tried out on the Macbook Pro and everything seemed OK except that wherever I chose to put an image it always inserted itself right at the top so I have to use copy (delete) and paste to where I wish the image to be. I have also become aware of another problem – the insert link has ceased to function although I can copy and paste an active link into the draft. I have downloaded a version of Firefox for the Mac Book so am currently using The Mac Book.
There is also something not quite right about the text layout. Previously when selecting a block of text the selected text had a solid blue area indicating the text selected. Now the highlighted text is not solid blue but in stripes. I have not got a clue what is happening, I just wish it was not me.

This is probably the ultimate cause of most of the problems you are seeing. You are creating big posts with lots of photos using software that is many generations beyond the browser and hardware you are using. The glitches you are describing are very common when old hardware or browsers start to become incompatible with newer programs.
-
Looks like I will have to move to the Mac Book Pro which has 10.7.5. Would it make any difference if I reduced the file size of the photos? Also would up grading the OS really benefit?

That should help some, although keep in mind that still puts you three steps behind the current release.
Would it make any difference if I reduced the file size of the photos?
It might. Smaller photos would make the page easier to load which might not tax your system so much. It’s hard to say for sure in situations like this though because there are a lot of different factors in play.
Also would up grading the OS really benefit?
Generally speaking, yes. A newer OS gives you access to newer browsers which are much more compatible with WordPress.com. That having been said, there is a point at which older hardware is no longer capable of running the newer OS and browsers and that causes new problems.
The best way to test is to work on your site on a modern machine running modern software to see if the problems persist.
