Nothing works

I’m a new blogger and I’d love to use wordpress as my blogging site but I’m starting to get really discouraged using the site. Absolutely nothing works. I realized that I cannot add custom themes which is fine, I’ll work with what comes with this but I’m not even able to add a header image and from my research online no one else can either? The site is extremely difficult to use even with my knowledge of coding and css. Is there any way someone can explain to me why my headers keep disappearing from my uploaded media/not showing up on my blog?
