Notification Bar Not Counting / Notifying

I’m not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I have a WordPress hosted website and I noticed that the Notification Bar in the back end stopped counting comments. Initially it would show a number next to it like “2” or “3” and it was an easy way to see if new comments were made from the Dashboard. It no longer does this even when new comments are made. For reference I’m talking about this
Is this a problem with a plug-in, a bug, or some setting that got switched off?
I’m using:
Yoast SEO
W3 Total Cache
Varnish HTTP Purge
Really Simple SSL
Jetpack
iThemesplus a few others.
I can’t seem to figure it out either way. Thanks for any help you can offer, and my apologies if this was posted to the wrong site or forum.

@erotibotica That counter only shows unapproved comments, not new comments. If you have no comments awaiting approval, then there will be no number there.

Well that just saved me a TON of frustration. Thank-you for explaining this to me. I can now rest in peace knowing this part of the site is functioning as intended. Hope you have a wonderful evening.
