Notification Button
-
Beginning on Friday or Saturday, the little orange notification button shows only the most recent notification. Even if there are multiple comments and/or likes since the last time I logged in. Also, there is no link to view all, as there was previously.
This occurs both with the black admin bar and also when I am on the Reader.
Where can I find the link to take me to the notifications? If I am on the page for Blogs I follow, there are several links, but none to the notifications. Same for when I hover over my gravatar on the upper right.
I suspect this is a browser issue. We are on Firefox 16.0.2, using Linux as our operating system. Could this be the trouble? My husband has been holding off on doing an upgrade, but maybe it is time to do so.
Thank you for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The most recent version is Firefox 20 so please do upgrade. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:
http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

Definitely a problem with the notification button. I started having similar problems late last week. See my previous message in response to an earlier bug report:
“I am having the same problem. Happens whether using Firefox or Chrome. Have tried disabling extensions, add-ons, etc. Always use https. Third-party cookies are enabled. Didn’t start having this problem until last week. (Hadn’t changed any settings before it started.)
Another problem popped up at the same time, which is that follow button isn’t working on other blogs. The only way I can now follow a blog is from Reader.
What changed on wordpress’ end?”

So I just enabled 3rd-party cookies, and that seems to have solved the notification, follow, and like button problems. Like I said, I hadn’t changed any settings before these problems started for me.
I would guess that WordPress now requires 3rd party cookies to be enabled? It would have been nice if members had been notified of this change; but… well, oh well.

About my issue, I am just going to have to wait. Because we use Linux, we do not often have a need to upgrade our operating system on a regular basis, but now the need as arrived. My husband tried updating to Firefox 20, but learned something with our OS needs to be updated first. He’s planning on doing this Memorial day weekend, so if I still have the problem after that, I will update here.

Hi there,
Thanks for the update. The most recent Firefox version is 21 now. -
Well, new operating system, updated browser all on a new computer and the notification button works just fine. Thank you for your help.
I just wish working through a new OS was as simple. :) I feel like such a newbie on the computer again.
