Notification Drop-Down Not Working
-
Hi,
For the past few days, my orange notifications button has not been working. It shows when I have a new comment/like etc. but when I click on it, I just get a spinning wheel and a blank box. No new notifications or history.
Everything is working fine in the notifications tab on the home page section.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If you are not successful let us know which browser (and version of it) you’re using and post any error reports you get.

Hi timethief,
Thanks for your response. I am using Google Chrome and I haven’t changed any settings recently, the notifications just stopped working a few days ago.
I cleared the cache, already have third party cookies enabled and I enables HTTPS all to no avail!
I opened WordPress in a Chrome ‘Incognito Window’, though and the drop-down worked! I don’t know enough about it to know if that helps at all…

Thanks!
It’s Chrome 23.0.1271.95
And now none of my home page features are working (stats, Freshly Pressed etc)! Ahhh! What have I done?!
-
Oh, panic over… I accidentally re-enabled the pop-up blocker on this site when I cleared the cache. The home page is fine now but the notifications drop-down still not working.

I have tagged this thread so Staff will take a look at your blog. If you subscribe to the thread you will be notified when they respond.

Hi there sarahedean,
Are you still not seeing those notifications from the toolbar? There have been a few modifications made to some errors popping up in the toolbar over the past two days, so this may have resolved.
Cheers!

Hi,
The drop-down notifications are still not working. I just get a continuous spinning wheel. =(

Nerts! I’m sorry that’s happening. : ( I have tagged this thread for Staff assistance. If you subscribe to the thread you will be notified when they respond.

Hi there,
Could you take a screenshot of the spinning wheel error you’re getting so I can show the internal team? I can’t replicate the error (since I’d have to log in as you), but if I can show them the exact problem we will have better luck pinpointing the issue.
Here’s a bit more information about how to take a screenshot:

Sorry if I’m being a bit silly (it’s late!) but where should I paste/upload the screenshot?
-
Please upload the screenshot into your Media Library and then post the file name here. Then Staff will examine it.

You’re doing great :)
You can actually pull out the entire file URL to post here:
http://morethangreens.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/wordpress-printscreen.png(if you open the image in your media library, it will be on the left side).
I’ll take this to our team and see what we can pull out for you.
Cheers!

So we looked at this from a couple of different angles and it all adds up to the same thing: it seems to be your browser. Especially because you could see the notifications from an incognito window.
We suspect you may have a browser extension activated that’s interfering. You could try turning them all off and seeing if that makes a difference, then turning them on one-by-one to see where the error is occurring.

Hi,
Thanks so much for looking into this. I will try disabling everything now. It’s just odd because it suddenly stopped working but perhaps an add-on updated without me realising or something! Thanks!
