notification e-mail is spoiler, can I change the content?
-
Hi,
My problem is that the e-mail that is sent when I add a new post, contains the entire content of the post. I think this spoils the fun of reading the post on the blog, because you can also just read it in your mail. Can I change the content of the e-mail that is sent so it won’t contain the entire post or it just sais “hey, there is a new post, read it on my blog!”?
thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes you can chnage this. Go here > Settings > reading
scroll down to:
Follwer Settings
These settings change emails sent from your blog to followers. -

Yes it is and that’s all we can edit.
Can I change the content of the e-mail that is sent so it won’t contain the entire post or it just sais “hey, there is a new post, read it on my blog!”?
You control how much of any post is sent out in the RSS feed which is used in the email. You can set your RSS feed to ‘summary” so visitors have to click in to the blog using the read more link to read the full post. If you go here > Settings > Reading
locate:
Syndication feeds show the most recent itemsFor each article in a feed, show
__ Full text
__Summary

Thanks for your help!
If I understand correctly, I cannot edit the content of the mail that is sent when I post something new, at least I can’t type my own personal message. That’s too bad. But i’ve changed the settings to ‘summery’ so now at least they won’t get the whole blog-text in an email, but have to go to the site to read the whole piece.
I hope it worked! Thanks!

That’s correct. Followers subscribe to receive your posts only. You cannot edit the content and inject your own personal messages into each of the email copies of your posts. If that’s your thing then simply inject your personal message at the beginning of each post.

This was good to know!
Is there a downside to only showing a summary? I’ve heard that this is a deterent for those who subscribe to my blog via rss feed. (It’s harder for them to visit on their smart phones.)
Has anyone found this to be true or not true?
I am a fairly new blogger and your input is appreciated!

I’ve heard that for years but it doesn’t seem to bear up in the case of my blogs. All using a “summary” does does is compel readers to click into your blog, rather than reading the whole post without clicking in and giving your blog the page view stat that it deserves.
