Notification emails

Hi. Is it possible to change the ‘By’ line in emails that go out to subscribers? I post articles that are written by other people, and the emails going out say they are by me instead of them. Even being able to delete the ‘by’ line would be better.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi agesca,

To credit different authors on your site you can invite them to be users.

Different user roles come with different levels of access to your site. This support doc explains the different user roles on WordPress.com and how to invite users to your site https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

If that’s not an option for you just make sure you credit the author appropriately within the post itself.

This presumes the author posts the article which is often not the case. So WordPress is ensuring that the wrong person is credited, which is not a service to anyone. This is just one of the many disadvantages of using WordPress.com. Thanks for your apologist reply! :-)

A couple of things. First, these forums are mostly staffed by volunteers so none of us are speaking for WordPress, just passing on the knowledge we have. If you want a staff response, you need to add ‘modlook’ as a tag in the field on the right. Secondly, I wonder if you might be able to get around replacing the ‘by’ line (which is probably automatically added by default) by adjusting what the content of each email says. If you go to your (classic) dashboard, then to settings and then to Reading settings an scroll down, you’ll see options to change the introductory content of these emails.

You can also try looking through these support pages: https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=emails

I hope some of that helps, if not, come back and try asking staff.

@quietseason – thanks for ‘modlook’. None of the templates at Settings | Reading are related. These are emails that go to me as a WordPress.com registrant who is following a site (that I created for someone who, unfortunately, already had an account on WordPress.com. I am not referring to everyone, but wordpress.com is an unresponsive boutique-ware community compared to grown up CMSs.
