notification history under bell randomly deletes itself
-
As above, all notifications of comments, likes, follows etc. just disappear. Then new ones come in and it builds up again until the next random disappearance.
I have notified support, just wondering whether anybody else has this issue? It started a few weeks ago.
Thank you
Inconstant Light
PS: It’s kind of a nuisance :-P

Hi there,
I see that you have already and open support ticket with us. It’s best to follow up there and keep all the communication in one place.

Thanks. Yes, as I mentioned support are aware. The idea was to find out if any other users had this problem and the staff agreed. I have an idea about what might be happening and a possible solution, and if I am correct I will also post here for other users.

I now have a work-around for this issue.
On my site a particular spam attack comes in at about 200 per day, and often several very close together.
I was using a filter on some words to move this spam directly from the spam folder to trash, to allow me to check through the spam folder for incorrectly classified messages. I have removed that filter, and now, for some time, the notifications have stopped disappearing. I think it is very likely the filter was causing the issue.
This work-around is fine for me, occasional missed comments don’t matter compared to losing notification history. However, I know the attack is not just my site, and I wonder what effects the attack might be having in general.
