Notification icon won’t work

    When I open the notifier, a gear just spins and won’t show replies from comments I’ve left on blogs. I’ve done all the usual things – tried 2 other browsers, disconnected extensions, bla bla bla, Nothing!

    When I click on notifier on admin bar, it opens blank, no comments

    First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

    If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

    If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

    I already did all that, cleared cache, updated Chrome, tried other browsers. Nothing. I cannot get my notifications from the little bell icon on top tool bar. It opens to nothing but a gear spinning

    Hi there,

    I notice you don’t have any sites on WordPress.com.

    Are you speaking of the WordPress.com admin bar – the one with My Site, Reader on the left and a Write button, profile icon and notification icon on the right, like what you see here on top of the forums, and on WordPress.com sites? In that case, that would only be showing you notifications related to comment you left on other people’s WordPress.com sites.

    Or are you speaking of the WordPress admin bar on your self-hosted WordPress site – this would show a WordPress icon, your site name, a comments icon and + New on the left?

    Hi. Sorry. I’m on . org. https://www.dgkayewriter.com. I’m still using the old editor with a plugin that enables it. But the last update threw everything off. Yes, the top right tool bar icon is where I always got my notifications, by some magical reason it started to work today, but I can’t see people’s gravatars on my blog. Also, yes, it tells me I don’t have any WordPress sites? Of course I’m on WordPress. That’s a new thing too?

    Can you please confirm which version of the admin bar you’re seeing where the notifications aren’t loading?

    We control the WordPress.com admin bar only. We have no control over the admin bar for your site, so if the problem is there, it’s not something we can help with.

    Also, yes, it tells me I don’t have any WordPress sites? Of course I’m on WordPress.

    WordPress.com and WordPress are not the same thing.

    WordPress is the name of the software your site is built with, and that software is made by the community on WordPress.org.

    WordPress.com is a hosting provider for that software. Your site is not hosted with us, and has no connection to the dgkaye7 WordPress.com account you’re using to post here, so it is correct that WordPress.com is saying you don’t have any sites – the site you have is using WordPress somewhere else.

    Okay thanks. But still. I originally had a WordPress.com site and moved it over, so I assumed they were under the same umbrella. Well, mysteriously, I can get the little bell icon to now me give notifications, but I can’t figure why people’s gravatars woon’t show up now. And yes, I’ve double checked my en gravatar and it’s fine. Always something with every update I guess.

    Where are those Gravatars not showing? In the Notifications area?

    Please take a screenshot of those Gravatars using a tool like https://snipboard.io/ and share it here so I can have a closer look.
