I am online on my blog, Around the Korner blog (because I dorked and didn’t realise what I was doing, so I got the blog part in there….stupid. Anyway, go to the reader section and click on the bell to see notifications. BUT, I can read them and not comment on the comment. I looked online elsewhere before popping in to contact us. I hope it is just an odd glitch. I am not going to hang out here if I can’t talk to anyone! :o)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It is interesting to follow topics people post in this help forum. Many of them tend to repeat themselves, which I am sure must irritate the happiness engineers! I’ve seen a couple similar to the problem I’m having, but the answers are not conclusive. At any rate, it is still a glitch and frustrating as trying to photograph a moving bird from a kayak with a basic point and shoot. The sidebar on the reader page shows up with comments under the notifications when I click the ‘bell’, they come thru in my email (Note: I did finally stop most of them, I was getting too many emails telling me about comments!). Once I get to the notification, I cannot do anything with them. They just exist, like candy in a window of a shop. Entirely visible, but completely elusive. It is entirely cumbersome, but I can scroll thru the reader page to find the blog where the comment was made and can go into the ‘comment’ section in the reader portion. However, there, I find a NEW problem!!! Certain keys don’t work when I type in the comments. Letters like ‘r’ or ‘l’ and a few others refuse to work! As you can tell, they work elsewhere on WP (here, for instance and when I post a new blog), but not in the comments. I reckon I am using some fun WP code, but not everyone can read them. If I open up tabs and go into the actual blog itself, I can leave comments easily. Well, not easily. Opening up new tabs to get into the blogs and interacting means the darn page refreshes each time you do anything. Which takes forever!!! Especially on limited internet in the boonies of Alaska. I sincerely hope someone reads this and addresses this funny issue. Meanwhile, I am keeping away from my blog as much as I can. I can WRITE, but not interact. And where is the fun in that?

I am even more frustrated now (I’ve written about it on my AroundtheKornerblog a couple of times.) But, BOTH my blogs have issues. Perhaps it is my laptop???? I’ve used my laptop for 3 years (I think it has been 3 years since my blessing blog was started) under krishansell. I have just started this blog under krisegbert. I noticed a friend’s comment that she does not blog from her phone anymore for this reason, but I’d hate to not be able to use the laptop. It is all I use! Wait, that isn’t true. I’ve posted very few posts from my ipad. Is that the issue? Should I discontinue using the ipad?

Wondering now if I am looking for help in the wrong forum. On my blessing blog (https://yourpresentblessings.wordpress.com/) I got help super fast and resolved issues quickly. If I am in the wrong spot (after reading all my previous comments, please), could you let me know where to go for assistance? Thank you, Kris

Am not sure why that last comment doubled, I am so sorry. Not sure how to delete that. At the moment, my keys appear to be working. This is very cool. The notifications are still not doing more than showing up and being able to be read.

Hi there, these forums are mainly community-based support and I can see you have participated in a couple other forum threads on this topic.

Since you’ve now started your own thread, I’ve tagged this for Staff. Please be patient for their reply.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hoooray!!! I am sorry for being a pain. I am positive you guys do not need people who are pains. I started this thread awhile ago, so thank you for finally finding it. There are a LOT of threads in this forum. You guys probably end up tearing your hair out with all of us silly people. I do try to figure things out on my own, but this is a bit odder for me. As I said, I am sorry-

  • Unknown's avatar

No need to apologize. Thank YOU for not opening an additional new thread on the same topic. That is what makes it difficult to track progress on any issue.

    Let’s wait now for Staff.

  • Thanks @justjennifer :)

@krisegbert I’ve seen your issue in other threads as well. As staff I can log in as you and test this, but I don’t want to do so without your permission since it would mark your notifications as read. If you’ll confirm I’ll give that a try, but if possible I’d recommend trying another browser first to see whether you encounter the same issue there. If you don’t, I probably wouldn’t be able to duplicate it on my end anyway.

If you do want me try it here, let me know what page you’re starting from, too, so I can make sure we’re going through the same steps.

Also, for what it’s worth, sometimes adding multiple replies to the same thread throws folks off, too: staff and some volunteers often cruise through https://en.forums.wordpress.com/view/no-replies to find folks who need help, but if you reply to yourself it won’t show up there. If you get in a jam that way and need staff hep, add the “modlook” tag and we’ll find you :)

Just downloaded the latest version of Chrome last night and the problems still exist. Caches have been cleared. Not sure what to do.

  • @daisymae2017 since yours is a different issue and @krisegbert already made this separate thread to help us avoid confusion, please post your comments in the other thread. Thank you!

@supernovia I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I got sick. A real live in the body kind of virus and so I read books. I am only now thinking about blogs again. Yes, I would not mind you looking at my blog. I would prefer you to look at the ones under krishansell. Those are my ‘grown up’ ones. :o) The one about the cheeseburgers is a gift blog (I didn’t get a book published, so am putting the thoughts in a blog and in two weeks I’ll send the link to a couple of my favorite HS grads.). So, I don’t mind having them look like they’ve been ‘read’.
I did discover today, however, when I posted a new post on the Cheeseburger Epistles, that everything was working. Here, on the laptop, nope. I have cleared caches and updated. I have used google chrome for ever and ever on my windows 8 laptop. I am not very comfortable with change! Anyway, if you can manage to make things all better…well, I am sure you can. I love you guys/gals!!!! https://yourpresentblessings.wordpress.com/

I am on your site and checked my notifications there. At least tried and guess what, the strangest thing happened and it was I could check my notifications on your site but not either of my sites. Why? Even made sure it was my notifications. it was. Why won’t my notifications work after drop down shows? Something is really wrong here. What I don’t know.

If I may be so bold as to interject the issue with notifications not displaying is going to come down to a browser related issue, an apps related issue or a connectivity issue.

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry timethief and supernovia, I just read your e-mail after I answered Your Present Blessing. From now on I’ll put mine in my thread.

  • @timethief is most likely correct on this:

If I may be so bold as to interject the issue with notifications not displaying is going to come down to a browser related issue, an apps related issue or a connectivity issue.

@krisegbert, @yourpresentblessings you’re having this issue on both accounts?

Did you try another browser yet?

  • Unknown's avatar

to the Happiness Engineers, you are right. Things are kind of muddled with different questions and comments. YIKES! I will try to respond in a clarifying manner.
    1. When I open up the reader portions on either of my blogs, I can click on the bell icon and see the comments under the notifications. I’ve always been able to do this.
    2. I can SEE them, but I cannot do anything else with them.
    3. I went into the notification settings and thought I changed it so I would not need to approve comments. But, as of today on May 11, I don’t even see that choice. At least it doesn’t appear as a choice on your present blessings. Crazy.
    4. When I use my ipad, I can navigate things properly (but I do not like using the ipad much. I have data I pull into my blogs on my laptop, so I like the laptop. I also am old school. I enjoy typing. I do use it more for ‘The cheeseburger epistles’.) **If I disable WP on the ipad, will it resolve all the odd issues?
    5. I have not tried a different browser. I have never used a different browser than google/google chrome in all the 20+ years I have been online. I’d have to google browsers to figure out how to even find and/or use a new browser. I will need serious babysitting to figure it out. BUT, since the notifications exist, I wasn’t sure a new browser would fix not being able to use the notification bar.
I am so sorry for being such a bother. I sort of scrolled around and answered comments last night, it was clunky, but I can read them and search for the proper blog and respond. Takes a REALLY long time. I guess I follow too many!!

  • Chrome made some changes recently. Will you please try another browser to confirm whether the same issue happens there? You don’t need to continue using it, but we do need to narrow down whether this is the issue or not.
