notifications

Why are people’s blog posts showing up in my notifications (not my reader page) and how can I remove them?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi –

Are these notifications that you get via email or found under the bell icon from the upper right corner of your screen?

Can you share an example of a site that appeared there?

It sounds like the normal notification process for sites that you’re subscribed to, but I am happy to take a closer look.

Found under the bell, and it’s for random sites that I don’t remember subscribing to? Like highligerature.com I have been unsubscribing when I see them pop up. But I have never noticed them under that notification before, gave always read the blogs that I follow via my reader tab.

  • Hi there,

It sounds like you’re speaking of New Post Notifications. We’ve had those for a while, and you can enable or disable them in your Reader subscription options, just like email notifications, from https://wordpress.com/following/manage. By default these notifications are disabled.

I’ve checked through all the followed sites on your account, and you don’t appear to have this setting enabled for any of them.

The only recent new post notifications I see in your account are for the site, The Crazy Reader – https://tinkareads.wordpress.com. Our logs show you followed that site about 8 months ago and unfollowed it yesterday, but we don’t log when email or reader notification settings for a specific site is changed. The fact that you’re getting those notifications means you, or someone with access to your account, must have enabled them at some point.

I don’t see any mention of the site highligerature.com in your account logs, nor do I see it under your recent notifications. When did you receive a notification for that site?

If one of these pop up again, please don’t unfollow the site or do anything else, but let us know here so we can take a look. But it’s hard to troubleshoot a problem we can’t see :)
