Notifications not being emailed properly
-
What has WP done now that not all of the notifications are showing up to our e-mail?
I believe this current problem started on or around September 5th, 2015.
I have three active free sites. And I only get mail from one or two at a time and sometimes that changes depending on the day or hour.
I believe this is a WP issue that WP needs to fix. My settings are just fine.
I do not want like notifications but I do want post comment notifications.
Could WP please stop trying to fix what isn’t broken and fix what is.
Thank you.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

OK now I’m getting alternate emails.
One in and one not.
First I didn’t get any to this site, then I posted the above notice.
I got an e-mail to this account around noon.
Then I just got another notification to this same account but not to my in box around 5 pm.
I’m going to give WP some slack as this is the first day in three weeks we have had a good thunder storm. And I think it is messing with the phone lines.
But after the storm passes… It would be nice if you could fix this issue. -
I have three active free sites.
What are the URLs for all three sites please?
And, are all of the sites registered under the same username account?
If not, then which username accounts registered which blogs? -
After you provide the relevant specifics I asked for above you can type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

All to the same user account (at least I believe so)
https://julesgemstonepages.wordpress.com/
https://julesinflashyfiction.wordpress.com/
https://juleslongerstrandsofgems.wordpress.com/I have already check the box at the bottom to be notified of follow-ups. Is that what you meant by subscribing to this post? That is how I received notice of your replies…to my mailbox.
I see tags on the right side, one says modlook. I will attempt that now.
but I am generally not versed in computer-ese. So I hope that explanations or directions can be given with the attention you would as if you were explaining things to one not familiar with or having great technical skills. …That didn’t do anything because Modlook was already there. Am I supposed to click on modlook? I did copy and paste the link and will look into that soon.Thank you, timethief.

Thanks for posting the URLs. I added the modlook tag for you just in case you forgot to add it. Please be patient while waiting for Staff help.

Hi, I’m a looking at your subscriptions, @julespaige . Here’s what I see:
– You have new post subscriptions for several sites
– I have confirmed those emails are being delivered
– You don’t currently have any subscriptions to new comments
Are you trying to follow comments on an individual post? If so, please note you’ll need to confirm each of those subscriptions, and if you’ve already done that, send us a link to a few of the posts you’ve tried to follow.
If you’re trying to follow all comments on a site regardless of the post, you can change that setting here:
https://wordpress.com/following/editJust note this can result in a lot of email.

Thank you for your reply. Starting around September 5th the email notifications to from all of my WP sites became sporadic. It varied by day or hour which site ‘forwarded’ (for lack of a better word) notifications to my email inbox. Yesterday for example before our storm and about six hours of power outage… I had three notifications for my gems site, only one the one in the middle got forwarded to my email.
On other days I received notifications from my other sites but none for Gems. Other days I got only emails for one out of three sites, not always the same site. Thank you for checking into this and I hope the issue is resolved. Please keep this forum open for at least a week in
case this problem persists.I am not trying to follow any comments I do not want to be as you say overwhelmed by a ton of mail. I just want ‘consistent’ regular email of notifications of new comments to posts.
-
Okay, I did a little digging. I’ve counted 19 new post notifications delivered to you since the 9th. I compared them to the posts on the gems sites you mentioned and did not see new post notifications for them.
Then dug a little more and realized you are not following those sites by email.
Can you go ahead and follow those three sites by email by pasting each URL here?
https://wordpress.com/following/edit -
I do not want to follow the posts individually by e-mail. I just want the notifications of new comments delivered to my e-mail from my sites visitors. Today (Sept 11, 2015) I currently received on site notifications to several different Gem posts by e-mail from ‘Rosy’ and got them in my email inbox. I haven’t gotten any email for the other sites. But that could be because I haven’t posted anything on them.
Could be due to not having access for six hours yesterday and being out this morning :)I would do a test by going to those sites and commenting on any post – and I may try that later. I am unable to do that right now.
Thank you for your time. I appreciate your advice and suggestions.

I just sent myself two test comments. (make that three, one for gems also)
One for ‘Strands’ and one for my fiction site.
Sept 11 2015 at around 2:30pmSo far I do not have any new notifications at my Gems site.
The ones from ‘Rosy’ were from yesterday.I’m not sure how long it takes for notifications to show up in my e-mail in box. I’m going to also do a test for Gems…
I just sent this ‘comment’ to myself on a ‘Gems’ post:
This is a test to see if WP will send this notification to my e-mail.
it is Sept 11, 2015 at around 2:34pmIn each case I went to the blog and left a comment I forgot to date the first one. But as of yet 2:36pm nothing has popped up on my site notifications or in my email.
So then I think it is fair to say there is a problem?
-
OK it is now about 3:15pm my time and none of my own comments to my self have shown up on my site notification list or in my e-mail.
I haven’t changed any of my sites on how I receive comment e-mail.
Did WP wipe everyone’s slate clean so they have to go in and reset their accounts? What I’m saying here is that I didn’t have a problem before Sept 5th when WP did some sort of update or change and now I do.When did you add the bit about being informed about changes to a post or page. I don’t need that if I am the one making the change.
I just want my notifications e-mailed to my email.I just check my Gems site settings and nothing was changed from where I had or wanted it.
I even refreshed the gems site a few times to see if I missed something incoming. But should it take an hour to get a comment notification? Last week it took over an hour for something to show up in my e-mail and now I’m not getting anything anywhere.
-
OK it is about 5 pm my time and I just (literally) got 4 email including one for each site. I happen to know that the commentator is from Canada.
But I still haven’t gotten the ones I posted to myself.I have never had to follow my own sites to receive e-mail notifications and I don’t intend to start that now.
-
Ah, I’d misunderstood. We don’t notify you of your own comments. If you want to test, log out and leave the comments using a different email address.
-
Also, I noticed when I was checking your comments settings (for this site, at least) that you have a rather long list of items for the moderation filter, and then that list appears to be duplicated for the blacklist. That could potentially cause some confusion.
For example, if you had the word ‘cat’ in both filters, you’d essentially be saying, “If the comment has the word ‘cat’, please keep it so I can review it, but please also delete it immediately.” So you might consider adjusting those lists.
If you’re getting spam, I recommend marking the comments as spam instead of trying to build filters to block them. The more complicated your list of filters, the more chances you may be missing legitimate, wanted comments.

Supernovia/ Velda,
OK that explains that part. Me commenting on myself.
And there is a possible other explanation for the dropped notifications. Though I hope that WP has also looked into the issue.
Our phone company did some work across the street last week and some brittle lines snapped – they have been repaired as of about two hours ago. But that doesn’t explain why some e-mail notifications weren’t coming through before that incident.
The last day or so even with the ‘phone’ connection issue, the e-mail notifications seem to be coming through on all three of my active sites. Please though leave this forum open for a week or so – just to see if the issue on WP’s end has actually been completely resolved.
I did see on another forum, that I have since unsubscribed to that someone else was having a issues with notifications. So it wasn’t just me :)
Thank you for your time and help.

Notifications can be tricky to troubleshoot. If we have five people having notification trouble in one day, chances are there will be five different issues. In your case, I was mainly focused on post notifications because I’d misunderstood.
But yeah, you should be getting notifications when other people comment on your posts. If you’re currently having trouble getting notifications when others comment, let us know.

The Blacklist and moderation filters hadn’t been an issue before.
I keep telling you my issues started when you changed something around September 5th in regards to notifications. There was some blinking off after liking and not being able to leave a comment. There still is the issue of after you post a reply in the notifications section that the original piece you are dealing with blinks out and goes back to the previous notice. Some of the ‘folks’ that I filtered on those lists couldn’t be marked as spam because they only came up in ‘likes’…The never left a comment that I could mark as ‘spam’. And that is why I have also removed the ‘likes’ options from my sites.
I do not like getting pyramid (get rich quick by doing nothing) schemes or unrelated ‘shopping’ ‘business likes’ (from say a mechanic or a candy shop in another country who only wants to post a like to attract business) that my readers could potentially get scammed by if they were to visit these ‘people’.
It would be nice if we, as members, could also have the choice to eliminate ‘troll’ or unwanted followers. This one ‘person’ has followed me about six times attempting to put a ‘phishing like’ on my sites and wouldn’t take ‘No thank you.’ for an answer. And that was the only way I seemed to be able to stop that person as well as some of ‘their’ other persistent sales associates.
Maybe since I haven’t been bothered in awhile by those ‘twits’ I can modify the filters. I’ll think about that. Thank you.

Again, thanks for your help and suggestions.
I imagine it is a challenge to keep things in running order for everyone. It is just that sometimes, I get used to things working one way and they they for what ever the reason changes occur and mess me up :)
I’m not a tech geek and I do appreciate those in the know. For the most part I have been quite happy with WP. And it is still my primary choice for ‘blogging’.

You hadn’t mentioned blinking earlier. Is the notification light turning back on even though you’ve already dealt with a comment? If so, clearing your cache may help:
