Notifications Not Working

    For the past few days, my notifications have stopped working specifically in wp-admin and other wordpress sites. It just shows a spinning wheel of eternal loading.

    – I use Opera (71.0.3770.198)
    – I’ve tried other browsers, and, yes, it does still work on them. But I don’t particularly want to switch browsers at this point in time.
    – It still works on wordpress.com/me
    – I have tried clearing cache, cookies, closing the browser, etc.
    – Javascript is enabled.
    – (Not sure if related, but) on one of my wordpress sites (shrimpchips.home.blog), it doesn’t show me the admin header and instead shows the “Get Started” with wordpress header. Strange, since my other wordpress site (emiliers.wordpress.com) doesn’t have this problem.

    I think this started a day or two after the new editor was pushed out for all sites, though I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

    Hi there,

    I’m not able to replicate that on my end. What operating system and what version are you using?

    Also, do you have any browser extensions installed?

    I’m using Windows 10 home, build 19041.508, though again, as wordpress works perfectly fine on other browsers, I doubt this error has anything to do with my OS. Best I figure, it’s probably an issue related to the Opera I’m using…

    I do have extensions, but the error still persists even if I open up a private/incognito window (with all extensions disabled) and relogin in from there.

    I actually ended up switching to a new browser in the end because this error bugged me so much, so this issue is now non-urgent. I’d still like to know how to fix it, though, in case it ever happens again in the future. (And, from a cursory google, it seems like other folks have experienced this problem before, so knowing an actual reliable fix would be nice.)

    Thanks for the additional info! I was able to confirm that I see your issue (no notifications, only spinning load icon) on my Mac OS 10.15. 4 Opera v71.0.3770.198

    I have reported this to our engineers for a closer look, but I in the meantie you can continue to use Opera. Notifications by visiting the “wordpress.com” dashboard and viewing them directly under the bell icon there: wordpress.com/home/
