Notifications of 'likes' for posts but no stats showing visits
-
I’m probably going to sound naiive now to some people, but here goes. I have had my blog a little under a day, and i’m getting the orange notifications on my bar to say someone has ‘liked’ my post, but stats show no visitors. How can that be? Surely they’d have to be on my blog to like a post, as how else could they see it? Thanks ;)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh – and no, they don’t have to be on your blog to ‘like’ a post. They can do it from the ‘Read Blogs’ page. (When logged in to your account, hover your cursor over the little grey ‘W’ to the far left of your grey admin bar which you’ll see at the top of the window, click on ‘Read Blogs’. Any blogs you’re following will show there and you’ll see a ‘like’ button top right of each post.

Oh i see, thank you . The ‘likes’ came from an external place though. A dot com address that is not WordPress, i think that’s what’s confusing me.

I just had a look at a few of your posts and you don’t seem to have the ‘Likes’ button enabled, so I’m wondering if this is a glitch. Wait a while, maybe another forum volunteer might have some better ideas, but if not it might be an idea for your contact support instead. Hang on – I’m sure you’ll get a response from someone else soon.

You’re right. I haven’t ticked the box to show ‘likes’ as i don’t want it, so i am even more confused as to why i’m getting ‘likes’. Thank you though for trying to help explain. I’ll do as you say and wait a bit, as it’s not really important, just a bit of a mystery for me, rather than a BIG problem ;)

Thanks for all the answers. I’m still a bit confused as i didn’t enable the ‘like’ so i assume people can still ‘like’ even though i didn’t enable it? I also didn’t think WP added posts in tag surfer from a new blog immediately, and i still don’t understand how someone who ‘liked’ a post is linked to a site away from WP. How does his website show in my likes? I think i’ll leave it at this as i’m confusing myself when there’s obviously nothing really to be confused about. It’s just me!! Thanks again ;)

Maybe this will clear it up:
Tag Surfer (now accessible on the left of your screen under the “W” favicon) is now called “Read Blogs.” It automatically contains a list of the tags and categories you use on your posts. When you click one, you will see an infinite scrolling page of posts made by other bloggers with the same tag or category. (Note: if you use this feature, you can modify the list for your own reading pleasure)
Your posts are automatically added to the “Read Blogs” (Tag Surfer) whenever you add a category or tag to a post. Your posts are also added to WordPress’ global tags
( http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/ ) but from there people must click the summary of you post to get to your actual blog to read it all.People who use this feature do not have to visit your blog to read the post, nor does he have to visit to “like” the post.
If you turn off “likes” it only means that you are not displaying “likes” to your readers. You cannot prevent folks from “liking” your posts—you only choose not to show off.

Ahhh now that explains things, especially the last two paragraphs. Thank you very much, i appreciate it ;)

I’m doing an experiment at the moment to see if a private blog I have that I’ve not got the like button enabled on, can receive ‘likes’. If it can, I’ll post back here (it’ll be useful for others to know, too).
The way someone with a .com site can ‘like’ something is when the WordPress.com user has got a domain. They still see our blogs, and can still use ‘like’, but show up as a dot com site without the wordpress in the URL.

Thank you @absurdoldbird for explaining about the domain name. That was certainly perplexing me!! Like a mind puzzle it was :) cheers
