Notify Administrator when Contributor posts are submitted?

Why doesn’t WordPress notify the Administrator when Contributor posts are submitted for review?
Currently you have to manually log in and click on the Posts button from the Dashboard and look for “Pending” at the top. This is rather annoying and tedious.
I would think that a robust notification system in a multi-user blog would be standard functionality for WordPress. I guess I thought wrong.

They have made some recent improvements by adding some email post changes features as explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-post-changes/ . I don’t see any mention of contributor posts pending though.

You might be able to get most of the behavior you want by selecting notification for draft changes.
