Novice needs help

I am struggling in my attempt to create a pro bono website with WordPress.com. Have merrily written pages (I need static info sections) but clueless about how to create a menu of them (vague idea about widgets…) on a home page, and cannot find the Mypick link to click in Dashboard so I can see results so far. At least then I would know I was getting things right – or not. Help…….

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://sapentiaorguk.wordpress.com/ is empty with no content

We need the URL of the site you need help with to give you accurate help.

Widgets are Drag and Drop from Dashboard >> Appearance >> Widgets – however some themes have different features built in or you might be best with more than just a Widget

    Hi auxclass,
Thanks for the response. I have published the pp now, though the site’s not ready ‘to go’. It’s intended to link requests for help from small charities abroad (probably Bangladesh to begin) with help from UK professionals and academics. I will need to take it down when the issues are resolved, so I can link publication with networking across UK universities. Sorry for preamble – just nervous about letting the world see…
Will look at other themes. Maybe better to pay (though budget is tight) and get something more useful, requiring less customisation.

Thanks timethief. I have now published the pages and they do appear on a RH menu as well as a bar. Yippee! As indicated above, I cannot leave published for long as we are not ready to go with offers of help to others…What I need to be able to see is a ghost version of the site in private, but I cannot seem to see this unless it’s published. Does wordpress offer a private view of the whole site?
Also, now I’ve seen the static pages, I need to reorder them, putting the ‘We are’ page first.
THen I’ve got to establish a section for posts, but not on the home page.
Sorry – I WILL work some of this out for myself but not a natural at IT and flying by seat of my pants, holding my breath for a lot of the time.

You have two options for visibility

    Dashboard >> Settings >> Reading >>

Either set to keep search engines out (lets others review and help with the site) – but easy for people in the forum to help

Set to Private and keep everyone out but those you invite in – most private
