Novice – posibly changed url
-
Hello, im a novice at wordpress and have been working on my website that my friends dad originally set up, he’s unable to help me now. I am a complete novice but have managed to navigate around and made changes successfully. However, today I was trying to make my home page the page you land on and changed the site url to juliehamilldesigns/home thinking it would change where the page opened. I got a 404 not found message so quickly changed it back but I now can’t even log in and my website isn’t found with the same 404 message. I have no clue what I have done. Help !
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy –
Thanks for getting in touch.
Looking at that site I can see it’s hosted on hpdns.net. It’s not using our managed hosting environment from WordPress.com.
For help, I would contact them first. Otherwise, there’s a volunteer network available for folks who run their own WordPress installations, which is how you’re set up. That is available at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
On WordPress.com our team offers a managed hosting environment. This means that we handle all the back end details of the site. Things like back ups, updates, security, spam, seo, ssl, mobile optimization, top notch hosting specs, and sorting out any errors or bugs that pop up along the way. When you run a stand alone WordPress installation, like what y’all have set up, then all of those details fall on to you – so instead of being able to focus on content you spend a ton of time and frustration fixing these sort of issues. Not to mention the money that’s involved with purchasing each product to to handle those items mentioned above.
You’ll be able to connect your domain and import your content to our managed environment as part of the $4/month plan.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The hosting guys fixed it for me last night. I dont recognise the hosts you mentioned. I am very happy with my current hosts, I have been with them for nearly three years and they go above and beyond my requirements. I knew what I had done yesterday so it was no fault of theirs, thank you very much for your offer. Hopefully lesson learned.

If you need more help with your WordPress installation, you’ll want to be sure to use the forums for the free, DIY WordPress code instead, as these forums are primarily for our free-tier hosting.
Here’s an overview of our services vs the DIY software. Let us know if you have any questions!
