Nucleare Theme – Wider content area

  • Unknown's avatar

    Please, I need help with how to change the width of the content area.

    I would like to be able to have the area wider, to take bigger (wider) images and can’t find where to change this in the Style Sheet.

    Many thanks,
    Ellie

  • Hi!

    Right now you have two layout configurations depending on your visitor browser window width. The first, for windows < 985px, make your #primary and #secondary areas (Your content and widgets areas) to expand to the 100% of window width. For bigger windows you have:

    – a content area (.content-area) in the left side, 71% width.
    – a widget area (.widget-area), 24% width and with a left margin 5% width.

    You can change those values as you need, respecting the 100% total. For instance:

    .content-area {
        width: 80%;
    }

    .widget-area {
        width: 18%;
        margin-left: 2%;
    }

    I hope this helps.

    Hi raulanton,

    Worked a treat, thank you very much. :)

    Just on another point about Nucleare, is there a way to prevent the first post always appearing with a text excerpt and no image viewable? It’s rather annoying as, being a photographer, I always put my image at the top, before any text and the excerpt view prevents the photo from being viewed when people first my latest post.

    Hoping there’s a fix for this – I’m not a fan of text excerpts on the latest posts on blogs :(

    Thanks.

    Hi, if you set a Featured Image it will appear on the first post above the post title. If you decide to go this route, then remove the image from the body of the post or it will end up appearing twice, once above the title and then also below in the content.

    Hello, No, unfortunately, a featured image above the title is not what I want to do. I would really like to have every new post appear just as a regular post would without it just showing as an excerpt ie the post title, then the image followed by all the text in the content area. Any chance of that at all?

    Sorry for any confusion I should have posted as Misselliedee not Lifechimes! Using WP on my phone and forgot to logout before posting my reply above. Hope this is the correct name this time!

    This would require editing/modification of the theme php script files, and we cannot do that at WordPress.com.

    No problems on the different username. I would have seen the gravatar and figured that it was you. :)

    I had a feeling that might be the case. Such I shame, as I really love the theme. However, not being able to show photos above the content when the page loads seems to defeat the object of a photography blog really.

    I’ll give Projects & Portfolios a try by setting a static front page and see how that looks – assuming I can work out how to do that!!

    Thanks for your help. :)
