number of followers dropped suddenly

    Hi – I see a few different older threads about this issue, but I just noticed that my total number of followers has dropped from ~130 to 32…this has occurred over the last week or so.

    I see that there are suggestions on clearing cache to resolve this, but as I am not hosting my blog locally, I’m not sure how this will help.

    Is it possible that some of the followers were spammers and were removed automatically?

    Any advice you can offer would be most welcome…I’d like to ensure that we haven’t accidentally lost people who are expecting regular updates.

    Hi there,

    Did you previously have your blog connected to one of your social media sites (like Twitter or Facebook) with the Publicize feature?

    When you’re using Publicize, those social media followers are counted in your total follower count. Removing a Publicize connection (under Settings > Sharing in your dashboard) can make your follower count go down.

    If you don’t think that’s the reason for the drop in followers, please let me know and I can continue investigating this for you. :)

    Hello. when I changed the name of my blog (and twitter handle) I lost my 914 twitter followers. I re-publicized to share w/the correct names and my twitter feed is coming in correctly but the 914 are still missing. I’ve removed and added the twitter account again to resest to no avail. any thoughts? http:sdcgrowthresources.com. Twitter: growthresources. thanks, S.

    Hi there, it looks like our system is confused about the number of followers on your Twitter account. Can you try completely resetting your Twitter connection with these steps:

    1. Go to Settings > Sharing in your dashboard, and click the “X” next to your Twitter username.
    2. Sign into your Twitter account and go to your Twitter apps settings page here: https://twitter.com/settings/applications
    3. In your list of Application on that page, find WordPress.com and click the “Revoke Access” button.
    4. Next, clear your browser’s cache.
    5. Then, go back to Settings > Sharing in your WordPress.com dashboard and connect your Twitter account again.

    Please let me know if that works for you! If you’re still missing your Twitter follower count, please let me know and I can keep investigating this. :)
