Number of posts on home page

  I’ve been blogging for two months and every post is appearing on my home page. Is there a way to have about only the latest 6 posts show up and the rest archived?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Unfortunately, WordPress has decided to switch all themes over to Infinite Scroll. Right now there are two or three themes with it, but they will all have it eventually. The only way around this is to go to your Widgets page and put a widget in your footer. Then you’ll have the option of opting out of infinite scroll.

  Thanks for responding. Can you please provide a little more detail? Which widget do I need and how do I put it in the footer?

  ANY widget will work. It’s just the presence of the widget that does this. Just go to the Widgets page and drag it into the Footer Widget Area. If you don’t have that, change themes to one that does.

  I have the same problem and am SO annoyed! With 170-odd posts so far, full of pictures, the infinite scroll is ridiculous!

  I use the theme Misty, which I love, but I can’t find a footer option in it, to put a widget in.

  I REALLY don’t want to change theme.

  Help!

  Misty Look doesn’t support footer widgets, so you won’t be able to disable the infinite scrolling unless you change themes. (unless TPTB decide to make it optional)

  If you’re using a theme that supports footer widgets, you add a widget to one of the footer areas then go to Settings > Reading and disable infinite scrolling.
  If you’re using a theme like MistyLook, the only thing you can do is create a static intro page in Pages > Add New, set your front to display that page in Settings > Reading, and rely on the Recent Posts and Categories widgets for navigation.

  Thanks both of you for the suggestions – although I don’t like either alternative, I’m afraid.

  I am slightly calmed down now, having made sure ALL my posts are shortened with the “more…” function, as I hadn’t been doing that in the first year of my blog.

  I am also relieved that the infinite scroll doesn’t seem to make you wait until all pictures are rendered before you can start clicking around.

  But I wish WordPress would leave such things alone, when they don’t seem to be an improvement. Please DO tell if there IS a reason why this is supposed to be better…
