Number of posts/pages and security

Hi everyone,
I have two questions. First: can I limit the number of post on the firts page?and can i password individually pages or categories?

Yes and Yes :)
1) Limiting the amount of posts on the main page is done in your Admin => Options => Reading. There is an option in there to put the number of posts you want showing. Don’t forget to save :)
2) Password a page or a post can be done in the “create post” screen or “edit post” if you have created it already. On the right hand side there is a “Post Password” box. Click the right hand side to expand it and put in whatever password you want :)
Categories cannot be password protected though, just individual posts or pages. That would be too easy :)

I have a follow-up question. I would like to display only one post in full on the main page. While I browse the archives or categories I would like to display summaries of 8 posts. Can this be done? Unfortunately I find that the entry in Admin=>Options=>Reading affects both.
