Number of subscribers does not match number of emails

I’m still pretty new at this, so I may be doing something wrong. I currently have 86 subscribers, but when I schedule a post, it says it will be sent to 72 subscribers. Several of my subscribers have contacted me, saying that they are not getting the email notifications.

It seems to me that WordPress should automatically be sending a notification to each subscriber when the post is published: that is, NumberOfSubscribers should equal NumberOfNotifications. But the numbers WordPress reports to me do not match. Is there some setting that needs to be adjusted?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

I’ll be happy to explain this. :)

The total number of subscribers includes all email and WordPress.com followers. When someone subscribes to your site without a WordPress.com account, they only have the option to subscribe via email. However, WordPress.com users (while logged in) have the option to simply ‘Follow’ your blog without necessarily receiving email notifications.

You can click here and look at the “Number of Subscribers” box to see a breakdown of Email and WordPress.com subscribers. Those who subscribe to email updates will always receive updates via email. Those who subscribed using a WordPress.com account can switch between receiving email updates or seeing new posts on the WordPress.com Reader.

If your readers/subscribers say that they aren’t receiving email notifications, please ask if they have a WordPress.com account. If yes, they’ll want to go to their subscription manage page (link here) to ensure email notification is turned on.

    Hope that helps!
