Number of views
-
When I post a piece through WordPress, I also announce I have posted via Facebook. I get feedback via Facebook for “post reach” and from WordPress with “views”. Sometimes, these numbers are quite different. Does this mean if I get 500 views on WordPress and my post reach is 500, 1000 ppl have viewed my piece?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there!
The views count on WordPress.com counts as the amount of unique views you have on each page/post on your actual WordPress.com site.
The post reach on Facebook isn’t related to WordPress.com views. Here is Facebook’s definition:

The two counts are separate and unrelated.
Does that help clear things up? If not, please do let me know and I can help further. Cheers!

Is this true even if I use the Facebook button on WordPress to share a post? So if I write a piece on WordPress, then use the “share via Fackbook” button, then my total views are my WordPress hits Plus my Facebook post reach?
Also, does it work the same way for “Share via Twitter” button? -
Hi again!
So if I write a piece on WordPress, then use the “share via Fackbook” button, then my total views are my WordPress hits Plus my Facebook post reach?
You will get one hit on your Facebook counter. Because you are the owner of your blog, your own visits are not counted in your site stats.
If a visitor to your site reads your post, then shares it with the Facebook button, your site will get one hit on your Site Stats, and one hit on your Facebook sharing button counter.
Also, does it work the same way for “Share via Twitter” button?
You got it! It works the same way.
I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

Ok, I think I have it, but let me use an example to be sure. On February 9th I published a piece that got about 400 views over the next three days according to WP. On February 10th, I linked the piece via my Frostededucation Facebook page, and have reached about 1300 ppl. Does that mean that somewhere in the vicinity of 1700 ppl in total read the piece.

Hey there!
There could have been some overlap in those numbers. For instance, a Facebook viewer may have seen your post, then clicked to read the actual article on your WordPress.com site.
In this case, their view was recorded once in your Facebook post reach, and once when they came to WordPress.com.
The numbers aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive, as they’re counted on two different platforms.
Thanks again!
