Numbering of untitled posts

In the past posts that did not have a title were titled with numbers, apparently random (I’m sure they were not, I just do not know what the numbering referred to). EX: an untitled post would be assigned ‘758’; it would say 758 at the top of the post and 758 in the list of posts (table of contents) on side of the page.
I noticed just now that all untitled posts simply say ‘(no title)’ in the list of posts on the side of the page.
Does anyone know why this has changed / how to revert to the number system?

Hi there,
Posts without a title are still assigned a number. You can check it in the url of one of your untitled posts.
However when these untitled posts are listed on the sidebar widget, their name is based on the actual title showing at the top of the post, not the number. As there is nothing there, it shows as (no title).

Thank you, however, up until very recently the posts showed in the sidebar as their number. I preferred this method of listing. I only noticed yesterday they were listed as (no title).
Possibly because I had to reset the theme about a week ago?
So I am seeking a way for the posts to automatically list in the sidebar by number, which until very recently was how they appeared.

Hi there,
Why are you publishing posts without a title? You really shouldn’t do that, as among other things it completely ruins your site’s SEO – how search engines see your content. The title is also used in the Reader’s search function so without a title people are less likely to find your posts there.
If you don’t want the title to display, you can use the Aside post format instead.
If the widget had previously shown the post ID instead of (no title), that was changed quite some time ago. If it were still showing that way on your site, something was most likely stuck in the cache and changing your theme caused the cache to be flushed. There’s no way to change it back.

In the post editor, click on Settings, and post formats will appear there if your theme supports it. However, I now notice you’re using a theme that doesn’t support it, so you won’t see that particular option.
