  How can in insert numbers into photos that I will put into a gallery

  Hi,

  You may use numerical captions, but the numbers will appear immediately below the images in a gallery. For how to add captions see the Attachment Details section of the Image Settings support page. However, notice the starred message that contains the caveat “The way the caption displays…is a function of the theme you are using.”

  Adding numbers over gallery images would be more difficult. See the topic How to add text on image?
