Numbers on the social sharing buttons are different to the WP stats
-
Hello, I am having some challenges with the WordPress site stats and I would like some clarification.
For example, this post: Ria expands to Malaysia and Middle East with acquisition of Malaysian-based Money Transfer Provider IME http://riafinancialblog.com/2015/06/23/ria-expands-to-malaysia-and-middle-east-with-acquisition-of-ime/
has, according to my WordPress stats, this amount of shares:
LinkedIn 30
Facebook 7
Twitter 5
Email 3
Google 1But if you go to the post, at the bottom it says:
LinkedIn 479
Facebook 437
Twitter 11
Google+ 0Can you please explain the difference and/or what the numbers are counting? I am thinking it’s total likes or interactions from LinkedIn etc, but I am not clear.
I couldn’t find a satisfactory answer elsewhere so I hope someone can help!
Thanks,
SianThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The social networking icons display only the share count of the number of rimes the icon was clicked on your blog post. WordPress.com does not have access to the numbers of share that were made anywhere else such as on the social networking sites themselves.

Hi, thank you for replying. It didn’t answer my question, but I have added the tag! Thank you!
The WordPress Stats are extremely different to what is displayed on the social sharing buttons at the bottom of the post, so I would like to know what exactly is being counted.

Google 1Can you grab a screenshot of where you are seeing this? Please include the browser address bar.
Here are some screenshot instructions if you are not familiar with the process:
I find http://snag.gy/ to be very useful for sharing screenshots. You can also upload the screenshot to your site’s media library. I will be able to see it there.

Hello! Thank you for your reply. Yes, sure… here is the link to the screenshot with the WordPress shares (backend) http://snag.gy/lpGXR.jpg
I accessed this page from this link:
https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog_sharesYou will see from the front end shares the numbers are different http://snag.gy/r1SEz.jpg
Thanks for suggesting snag.gy!
Sian
We are in the process of a web migration so I don’t want to load it to the site’s media library.

So, the numbers from our stats are the times that someone has shared the page FROM your WordPress.com blog. The numbers presented by the sharing buttons are the number of times that the social media network has seen that page get shared by any method. We are counting shares that comes from us, they are counting shares that have come from anywhere.
Does that make sense?
