Is there a filter to blog disgusting obscene comments such as the one I received today. I DID trash it but observe the content and e-mail address. (below)

fuckyoucunt commented on WTF Is The Problem With This “Angus” Kid Anyhow?

[caption id="attachment_18202" align="aligncenter" width="260"] Little Angus T. Jones laughing after learning just how much …

I doubt you even watch the show tbh. The photo you claim is of Courtney showing Charlie some bullshit involving vegetables is a photo of ‘Courtney’ and ‘Alan’. Such a dickwipe you are, writing about stuff you have no idea on. You fucking fag, go back to sucking cock for money, your shit blog won’t go nowhere.

Sounds like a typical angry web troll. There is no filter, provided it is not spam. I am assuming, since you didn’t say the comment was unrelated to your blog post, that the comment WAS related to your blog post and thus is not spam.

The solution is to trash it. If you want NEVER to have to see comments like that, either employ someone to go through the comments for you or close comments entirely, because the internet is full of strangers and some of them are like that.

PS in most countries including the US and UK it is illegal to expose someone’s IP address without their permission.

Why are you posting that here? This is a public support forum. It’s available to everyone with internet access and you just helped that troll spread its message which is exactly what it wants to do.

You have complete control over what gets posted to your blog by using comment moderation. This page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/
    Comment moderation http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

Mark only spam as spam and delete troll comments.

    How to Starve a Troll

  • Unknown's avatar

Under – Dashboard >> Settings >> Discussion >> you can blacklist words you don’t like two options – one sends the comment will go to moderate and the other setting sends comments to spam – take your pick – remember to save changes

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah yes, I forgot about the blacklist.

  • Unknown's avatar

I do not recommend placing the IP address in the comment blacklist http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-blacklist simply because they have not been unique for over a decade and less than 30% will trace back to a specific computer. That’s because ISPs have been placing hundreds of us in the same IP block to save money. So if you place the IP address in the comment blacklist the result can be sending legitimate comments to spam. Moreover, any committed troll can get a new IP in the wink of an eye.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, but if swear words upset you, then that’s what the blacklist is for.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes indeed but I never referred to obscenities above I stated “I do not recommend placing the IP address in the comment blacklist”.

  • Hi @misfit120

Sorry for the trouble! In addition to everyone’s comments here, I wanted to also point out that (unfortunately) spammers pretty much never stop trying new tactics to get past our spam filtering, so you can see spam getting through from time to time.

We try very hard to eliminate spam comments, but sometimes we need to learn what spammers are doing in order to effectively catch them.

With that in mind, please mark those comments as spam instead of just deleting or placing in the trash. Our anti-spam engine tries to find patterns in the comments that are marked as spam, to prevent future ones as best we can.

For more information about dealing with unwanted comments, see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for all the info. Will follow your advice in the future.
