Obtaining ownership of a wordpress site

I’m starting a blog on emergency preparedness. Two of the simplest, most relevant site names are used, sort of. preps.wordpress.com was basically never used since registering in 2007. prepping.wordpress.com got three posts in 2009 and nothing since. I’d like to contact the owners and ask them to transfer their site to me, but they left no way to get hold of them. Sad to think these simple, memorable site names are eaten up by folks that don’t use them.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

contacting the owner yourself is the only option – the WordPress.COM staff will not help you – respect of privacy – try leaving a comment on the sites – or find a new name – or buy your own custom domain name and map it to most any blog name (domain mapping covers up the base name)

Thanks. That’s disappointing. Even worse, there are some choice names that say they are unavailable because the authors deleted them. That makes no sense. If the authors deleted them and nobody is using them, they should be available again.
